Best Man
Joseph and Jair met when Roomsync (a roommate choosing app modeled after a dating app) figured they'd be a good match. They bonded over one text conversation when they found out about their common interest in Valorant -- the video game -- and the rest is history. Now Joseph has been Jair's roommate for four total years before getting married to Zoe. Jair is more than excited to make Joseph his Best Man. The real question: did they ever play Valorant? Yeah, sometimes. But more often than not, they'd spend time with friends, talk about guitars, Magic the Gathering, emo and punk music, computers, video games, and the girls they are married to/getting married to. If you ever see Joseph... no you didn't. You heard him first. But everyone knows it's going to be a good time when he shows up.
Matron of Honor
If you had told Karenna her best friend in college would be Madalyn, she probably wouldn’t have believed you. Not because Madalyn isn’t cool, but because Karenna isn’t cool enough for her. Madalyn has lived most of her life in Ohio, but spent several years in Ecuador as well. She speaks Spanish, vacuumed our dorm room, and is always there to support and encourage her friends. Karenna and Madalyn had a lot of fun being roommates for two years and were the proud parents of a fish (Ella Fishgerald), a snail (Jefferson), and a shrimp (Buster). They’re all dead now, though. Madalyn and Karenna still keep in touch regularly. She is now a social worker at a hospital in Springfield, displaying God’s kindness towards people in need. If she’s not at work, you’ll probably find her with her husband, Spencer, enjoying some hot chocolate and Friends, spending time with their families and friends, or serving at their church.
Groomsman
Jake "Jacob" "Jakey" "Jay" "Kubíček" DeVol has been there since day one (of college), and he's here past day 1000. Jair and Jake met -- and bonded in -- the basement of their Dorm, and loved making music with their band, the Brockstars. Now, Jake and Jair like bonding over being in the Masters of Divinity program at Cedarville. You will often see Jake doing homework, talking to people, being cool, talking to people, pretending to be cool, and talking to people. Jair is honored to have Jake as part of his wedding party and to continue studying the Bible with him.
Bridesmaid
Zoe and Karenna are singing pals. They first met and bonded during their time in the Inversions acapella group. Little did Karenna know… Zoe would soon start dating her good friend Joseph. From that moment, their friendship was locked in. It’s a unique friendship made up of some pretty unique people. (Mostly Zoe. I'm pretty boring.) To get the general vibe of Zoe, think “dinosaurs,” “flowers,” and “grandma clothes.” (Grandma clothes she pulls off extremely well, by the way.) Some of Karenna’s best times in college were in Unit 20, where she and Zoe both lived. She’ll always remember the late nights and us getting yelled at a lot for being too loud. Zoe is such an encouraging friend who wonderfully embodies what it means to love the Lord with all your heart. She’s extremely smart and now does fancy computer things as a full-time job. If you’re wondering what she’s up to, she’s probably hanging out with her husband Joseph, doing puzzles, or playing games with friends.
Groomsman
Andrew plays bass. But that's not all! He's also the bass player. Jair and Andrew met day one of Cedarville in the basement and quickly hit it off talking about video games, cracking jokes, and being sarcastic. Andrew joined the legendary Brockstars as the bassist, having barely even touched a bass, and now absolutely kills it. Andrew continues to be one of Jair's best friends. If you see Andrew, he's most often hanging out with his wife Natalie, playing Factorio with his friends Monday nights, or laughing at funny pictures of Jake.
Bridesmaid
Fun fact: Andrew and Natalie Davis have been dating since high school. And Karenna inherited Natalie through her friendship with Andrew… which has been such a blessing in her life. She’s a talented artist, a loving friend, and an overall goofy person. She makes people laugh with her endearing awkwardness and silly mannerisms. She's the kind of person that keeps the conversation going (which is good since Karenna is not that person), and so, it was a fast friendship from the beginning. Natalie has just started a new job of working in the office of an orthodontic business. When she's not working, she’s planning our next girly pop event, spending time with friends, sending wedding ideas to Karenna, or hanging out with her husband, Andrew.
Groomsman
Jair met Spencer when both of them were on campus early Junior year for work. A month later, they were getting coffee together regularly and trying to solve the biggest issues of society, one cortado at a time. Jair and Spencer love to build on each other's long list of hobbies and obsessions, and before long will go from talking about proper coffee brewing techniques to debating whether art has meaning outside of the divine. Is it pretentious? Yes. But will they continue to be friends? Absolutely. Most days you will find Spencer spending time with his wife, Madalyn, programming, drinking decaf coffee, or planning out the train routes in the group's Factorio bases (if you know, you know).
Bridesmaid
Sarah was one of the first people Karenna talked to at Cedarville. They both lived in the same hall freshman year (along with Madalyn and Elise) and, despite the fact that she graduated early and abandoned Karenna, they are still friends today. Karenna has many fond memories of sleepovers in Sarah's room, watching lots of movies, wacky adventures to costume shops, and getting coffee together to catch up on life. She's the sweetest, kindest person Karenna knows. And despite being quiet, she is very funny and says some of the most out-of-pocket things. Sarah works as a social worker, driving her car around to a bunch of different locations to help a number of clients. She spends her time with her husband Cale (not the vegetable,) playing video games, making coffee, experimenting with coffee, driving to different coffee shops to test their coffee, and drinking coffee.
Groomsman
Payton and Jair have been friends for almost 9 years, or at least since Payton asked Jair to start a band. Being responsible for Jair's obsession with music and audio, It seems only natural that he should pay for it by being in his wedding party. After starting their first music project, Downtown Park, they spent a lot of time recording music, playing music, and going to music stores. After their hit single (hit is a relative term) "Shoulda Told Her," they knew they hit a gold mine. After so many years, Jair is excited to have Payton be a part of his big day. On a normal day, Payton is probably doing homework, buying guitars, breaking his ear drums with his drum set, or cooking.
Bridesmaid
Elise and Karenna first met on the first floor middle hallway of Willets, and Karenna immediately noticed how fantastic her hair is. (Which she never told her... whoops.) Karenna strongly admires Elise's courage, maturity, and her passion for the things she cares about. They were able to spend a lot of time together the summer after their junior year, and over time, Elise helped Karenna become more of a dog person. Karenna always enjoys their conversations and discovering yet another way that they think alike. Elise works as a case manager at a nursing home, and her love and care for her clients is so evident. You'll probably find Elise hanging out in her new house with her husband, Zach, and her dog, Yoder. And if it's dinner time, she's probably cooking or baking something insanely delicious.
Groomsman
Nick is a true day one-er. Literally. Jair's known him since Nick was born. Since then, their relationship has evolved. As kids they dressed up in super hero costumes, as teenagers they made gaming videos for youtube, and now they still keep in touch about all the things going on in life. If anyone deserves to be there for another of Jair's life events, it's the guy who's been his friend for the rest of them. Nick is usually playing video games, making content on Youtube, flexing his creative muscles, or spending time with friends (near and far).
Bridesmaid
Gabi is the cousin closest to Karenna in age and one of Karenna's favorite people to hang out with. Their time at Cedarville overlapped during Karenna's first year and Gabi's last year. She was the one who first introduced her to Bill's Donut Shop and drove her to the hospital when she severely sprained her wrist freshman year. She also made Karenna some kind of chowder one time in her Cedarville apartment that was delicious. Karenna thinks about that chowder a lot, wondering what it was because she can't remember the exact name. Gabi is a determined woman who stands up for herself and the people she cares about. She works at a hospital somewhere doing something. She often spends time with her family and friends or at home taking care of two cats and dog.
Groomsman
Brady is Karenna's younger brother and her built in best bud. He is currently an electrical engineering student at Cedarville University, which makes sense because he's wicked smart. Brady had the opportunity to be in Jair's Discipleship Group at Cedarville, where he totally destroyed Jair at Mario Kart. In addition, Brady shares a love of solving Rubik's Cube puzzles (and all of its variations), and he is starting to learn how to get as fast Jair. It's been a privilege for Karenna to see Jair and Brady get to know each other over the years, and it's exciting that the two will soon get to be brothers. Most days, you will probably find Brady doing homework. (And he's probably a month ahead on stuff, too.) If he's writing an essay, he's probably in the laundry room. And if he's anywhere else, it's with a tuba.
Bridesmaid
Emma is Karenna's baby cousin... who is now officially in her twenties. Karenna fondly remembers fun times with Emma playing dress-up, performing living room plays for the family, going to Grandma Camp, and playing lots of card games. She's artistic and very stylish, but more importantly, she has a big heart for her family and loves them all dearly. Today, Emma is a student at IWU, studying to become a teacher. She's also a cheerleader at the school, and keeps herself busy with her studies, her cheer team, her church, and her friends.
Father of the Groom
The common fear for many men is that they will turn out like their father. The real fear is finding out they already have. Jair definitely inherited many traits from Curt, including a love for coffee, books, and theological discussion, a musical aptitude, and a winsome personality. In short, Jair inherited his pretentiousness. There's lots to say about the man that raised you, but Jair is -- and always will be -- proud of his dad for his wisdom, guidance, and love through all sorts of trials. Jair always knows that his dad believes in him, and he will always believe in his dad. He's modeled strength, courage, and kindness. On a normal day, Curt is drinking coffee (like, a lot of coffee), keeping up with politics and social theory, and teaching English to his many students.
Father of the Bride
All her life, Karenna was told that she looks just like her father. She didn't believe it until she did a face swap with him on an app, and all it did was make her look a little older and him a little younger. She's like him in a lot of other ways too. Both are very smart, organized, and talented, especially musically. She loved to watch him help lead worship at church by playing trombone in the orchestra or singing on the worship team, and she was so excited when she got to do those things with him. There were a lot of good times playing in brass quintets and singing duets in church. Karenna appreciates the ways her father pushes her to pursue the things she loves, leads the family spiritually, and loves his family well. You'll probably find Nathan working at Uline, serving in multiple ways at the church, or at home hanging out with his wife, Kathy. You will not find him drinking coffee, and it is appalling to him that his daughter has become such an avid coffee drinker.
Mother of the Groom
Nothing really describes the many ways that Jair's mom has comforted him. What he can describe, though, is the many times she helped him with his calculus homework. Vicky is an incredibly smart, kind, and wise woman, who has walked Jair through some really tough moments. Jair can always count on his mom to talk to him when he's unsure, challenge his understanding, and push him to be the best man he can be. They say that a good father sets an example to his daughter of the man she should marry, but a good mother sets just as important an example to her son. Jair is so proud to call Vicky his mom, and for her to be such a good example to him, and he knows that if anyone can fill her shoes, it's Karenna. On a normal day, Vicky is usually engaging with people, teaching in one department or another, or spending time with Curt.
Mother of the Bride
Karenna has fond memories of her childhood with her mother. She remembers when her mother made french toast or pancakes, would draw Disney princesses for her, and helped Karenna teach herself how to read by buying some flashcards. One thing Karenna can say about her mom is that she seemed to know how encourage Karenna to grow in her skills and abilities while not letting her get a big(ger) head about it. Looking back, Karenna is amazed at how her mother subtly encouraged her to pursue something as if it was no big deal... only realizing later that it was a big deal. For example, her mother, who taught the preschool Sunday School class at church, let Karenna (a current preschooler) teach the class one morning because she was sick. Kathy has always seemed to know that Karenna was born to be a teacher, and she provided several opportunities for Karenna to teach Sunday School at church. Today, Kathy works as a yoga instructor, personal trainer, and on staff at the church office. You'll probably find her planning something big, whether that be a church event or an elaborate vacation. If she's not planning, she's hanging out with her husband, Nathan, at home.
Usher
Andrew Walsh, or just "Walsh" as he is usually known in our group, is a hidden wild card. He's one of the sweetest and kindest guys you know, and then he'll come out with the funniest, most sarcastic zinger you've heard. Being the newest member and drummer of the Brockstars, Jair had to make sure he was a part of the celebration. Jair and Walsh love talking about music, and have played several shows together, some of which are for Walsh's church retreats. Andrew's an incredibly talented musician, a great friend, and a really amazing guy (as I'm sure his fiancée Taylor will testify). By the way, Karenna and Jair did, in fact, get engaged after them, and are getting married a month before them. Sorry, not sorry. When Walsh isn't playing music, he's working as a Civil Engineer in Kentucky, hanging out with his brother Peter, and keeping the Brockstars in check.
