We both decided to participate in the Philly Dyke March; an annual march for queer women during Philly Pride, but we didn't notice each other until the after party at Tabu. There, we danced all night, and walked 21 blocks home together at 3am so that we could keep talking. The next morning, we met up again to go to Pride, and the rest is history.
Jaime came up to Philly from the University of Delaware to visit Caitlin for Wawa's Welcome to America festival. They spent the day watching the parade, painting at the Jewish American Museum, and walking to the art museum where they settled under a tree. Jaime told Caitlin she had a declaration of her own to make (corny, and on brand) and asked her to be her girlfriend. Caitlin, of course, accepted, and they walked hand in hand the rest of the day.
Caitlin and Jaime went ring shopping at Vinh Sang Jewelry to look at jade rings. Jaime immediately fell in love with one, and Caitlin bought it on the spot. Jaime was too excited to take the ring off, and convinced Caitlin to let her keep it on "just" while they went for lunch. Over a lunch of pho, Jaime asked if this could be the official engagement, and Caitlin was too happy to deny her. We celebrated by going back to the park where they held the Philly Dyke March the day we met. Caitlin got down on one knee for a proper proposal and Jaime said yes, again.
Caitlin came back from a visit with her mom and nan to a sign on our apartment door that said "I <3 U." She came inside and Jaime presented a photo album of our relationship with images and corresponding songs for each stage of our relationship. Caitlin sat on the couch looking through it, and on the final page, it said "Will you marry me?" She said yes.
