My first encounter with Ant was the same time I was entering what I’d like to say “the civilian work force”. I had recently been hired as a Sales rep after spending a decade in uniform serving in the Marines. Naturally, I wanted to have my best foot forward, so I was dressed to impress and ready to work. At the time I was unaware that Ant had been thrown under the bus and was instructed to be the HR representative to perform my INDOC process into the company. Boy was I shocked lol. I remember standing in the front of the office , which mind you, was a professional environment and out of the corner of my eye I see something Red moving towards me. I turn to my right and there standing next to me, at a whopping 5’ and 3/4” in a bright red Ohio state sweater, light blue jeans, and what seemed to be the brightest white sneakers I had ever laid my pupils on was Antoinette, The HR Manager. I simply remember telling myself “she must have an appointment or somewhere to be after”. We walk towards the conference area where she so elegantly struggled to set up the TV and Computer (technical difficulties that I now know will follow her for the rest of her life). Finally power point is up and running. She runs me through the first two slides, and halfway through the third she stops, looks at me and simply says “you can read that right? Unless you want me to read all these for you?!” In my head I was like, well damn. I responded “yea I can read them, but honestly being a Marine, reading isn’t my strong suit” we shared a laugh, and the rest is history. All I can remember is how comfortable she made me feel in a new environment, she helped me break out of my shell as time went on and ultimately adjust to “civilian” life. Who knew that one day I would be marrying her, but I am glad God let our paths cross because look at us now!!
