I went out for a fun girls night while attending UTEP and changing my major on three different occasions. My friend spotted him across the room and told me to look at how cute this guy was. Needless to say I got caught looking and he walked over and asked me to dance. We spent the rest of the night dancing and when it came time to leave, he asked me for my phone number. I really didn't expect anything to come of it. I mean, who meets their soulmate in a club? After texting back and forth over the weekend he took me out to lunch between classes on that monday. It was a whirlwind romance that came to a halt and I honestly can't remember why other than being busy with school and work....??! After losing touch for 5 years we reconnected on Insta. Thank God for social media! We picked up right where we left off when I was in college only this time we were on opposite sides of the country. We definitely needed that to change. So in the summer of 2019 we both picked up our lives to start a new one together in Las Vegas, Nevada. We still dance like we did when we were only nineteen and twenty, only these days it's in our kitchen and the living room with our beautiful girls and crazy dogs. And I can't wait to dance through the rest of our lives together.
Turning 28 was great! I traditionally just do a big birthday dinner with my family and closest friends every year. It's never anything big, but I always look forward to it. DeVonte told me he wanted to have a dinner with just me and let's just say I was not thrilled about that idea. I wanted everyone together. My mom started to diffuse the situation saying that Vegas is open all the time we can all do something together after dinner. I reluctantly agreed. A few days later I found out that my best friends from high school were coming to vegas to celebrate my birthday with me. Of course I brought up doing something all together again for my birthday, but DeVonte still said no we were sticking to the original plan. Y'all I was salty for a few weeks. He put up with my attitude the whole time. On the day of my birthday I had come to terms that I wasn't going to get the big family dinner and I was excited to dress up for a day and spend a romantic dinner with my guy. He told me we were going to take pictures first but the photographer was running late. We were supposed to meet him at a hotel and of course every episode of Criminal Minds started running through my head and all I could think was, "There is no way this is safe." I still went along for the ride and when we walked into the hotel room I was surprised to find a bottle of my favorite wine. I started to sit down but he told me he had one more thing he wanted me to see. I walked through another door and when I stepped through everyone yelled SURPRISE! I was shocked. I started to say hi to everyone who came and everyone took turns saying something sweet to me. I loved every second of it. I turned to read a card left on my birthday cake and when I got to the bottom of it i read the words, "Turn around." When I turned DeVonte was down on one knee and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. Of course I said yes! Can you say BEST BIRTHDAY EVER!
