Angel and Jai met through a mutual friend. Angel was interested in joining Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and Jai was already a member. Angel asked for a letter of recommendation and words of wisdom. Jai asked her a million questions about her reasons for joining and the two began to bond over time. Angel was romantically interested in Jai but Jai was completely oblivious. They shared life's ups and downs and a beautiful friendship grew. Jai finally expressed her feelings to Angel and it only took 5 years. The two are now inseparable.

The proposal came at a time that Angel was not at all expecting. Angel was anticipating that Jai would propose in October closer to her birthday. Jai had other plans. Jai made an opportunity for Angel to get the right attire for the event including hair and nails. Jai wrote a song but the melody left and it became a poem. She had a moment where she thought Angel was on to her and a distraction was needed so a small argument was started to throw Angel off her trail. When we arrived at Bahama Breeze, Jai asked Angel to secure the table and talked briefly with Angel's brother. While everyone enjoyed dinner, conversation, and the basketball game, Jai read her poem to Angel proposing. Then Jai presented 3 three rings for Angel because there was anxiety about which one she would like so all three were purchased. Angel did not cry. She was in shock but said yes.
