In an unpredictable time, we had an unpredictable introduction. Picture this; the world might literally be ending. Human-kind might be at stake. And we, are at a birthday party, with few colleagues because, that's what our Covid bubble allowed for. I suppose the strategy was a bit flawed, because we, had never met. While short and brief, and not at all expected, we exchanged pleasantries, dropped a champagne cork in the pool, and went our separate ways, never expecting to meet again. Jaeger's FBI skills were raging. Unprecedented online stalking skills (okay.. maybe it wasn't that hard to find), lead him straight into Tarryn's DM's. But don't worry folks - the story doesn't stop there. While he may have suggested a first date, he ended up stranded in the Kootenay area, and cancelling. Our second attempt was cut short, too, and at this point, seemed like something that just wasn't meant to be. We both went on our own way. Later, Jaeger had a good friend arrive from out of town, and in great host fashion, went out for dinner. Coincidently, Tarryn was also STARVING (maybe.. the details are foggy here). With a 6 person table rule, everyone excited for restaurant re-openings, and no reservation, we both looked for a way in. After a quick text, our evenings joined mostly out of desperation for a tasty BNA meal. Two friend groups, that hardly knew each other, ended up with a few drinks in hand, full tummies, and a game of indoor bocce. Who knew that was such a romantic game? This is where the happily ever after starts. Leaving the restaurant, both in walking distance from home, Jaeger grabbed Tarryn's hand before walking across the street. It turns out, it was meant to be.
When Tarryn's Dad jokingly said, "why don't you join us in Mexico for a family vacation?!" we took it very seriously. Flights were booked and anticipation was rising. When Jaeger told his family about the same trip and jokingly said, "why don't you guys come too!?", they also took it very seriously. So there you have it, the perfect storm for suspicion. Tell a girl her parents are meeting his parents on a romantic vacation and watch her heart rate rise. We had a wonderful holiday, and with the two days of parent overlap, Tarryn wore white. But when Tarryn's parents hopped on a plane back to snowy Canada, the suspicion dissipated. The pressure was off. Little did Tarryn know, Jaeger had snuck in a heart-to-heart with his future father-in-law, and with the help of his family, the ring was on route to Mexico. Remember those two friends from BNA? We'll they flew over to get in on the action and capture the next big event. We had a lazy day by the pool, with no plans for the first time since the vacation started. Jaeger's parents suggested we go visit a family member who lived in town (shoutout to Aunty Faye who played it off so well). We washed off our sunscreen, and piled all eight of us into a rental car, for a casual last minute (or so Tarryn thought) dinner. "The sunset on this side is amazing, and dinner isn't quite ready, why don't you kids go for a walk to check it out?" was the perfect unsuspecting suggestion to get us on the beach. We took pictures, drooled over oceanside mansions, and got warned by the coastguard that the tide would be coming in soon. "One quick picture before we have to go," said Jaeger, and the boys got their phones ready to roll. With the sun perfectly hovering along the sealine, and everything turning a bright shade of all the sunset orange, Jaeger got down on one knee. Mexico rightfully secured a special place in our hearts as each family couple danced to their wedding song at the dinner table. We celebrated with an amazing meal, tequila, and (of course) necessary tabletop dancing. We want to re-create the magic, the warm nights, and celebrate with all of you for our next big step. Back to Mexico we go, but this time, we're getting married!!
