All tips about traveling to Costa Rica! We recommend for you to land in San Jose ideally on Thursday the 10th in the morning to early afternoon (so you can join us for our Friday morning welcome excursion. **If you arrive in San Jose in the evening, PLEASE do not drive to Uvita in the dark. We recommend you to stay the night in SJ and drive down to the area in the morning. Costa Rica gets dark very fast (by 6pm). Also you will be able to enjoy the beautiful views along the way during the daytime! You also have the option to fly from San Jose to Quepos airport which is 45 min from where we will be located if you choose to. You will need to provide your own transportation within the country -rental cars and reservations ahead of time are recommended (carpooling is encouraged). Please keep in mind the venue/area we are holding the wedding is 3 hrs away from San Jose.

Flight

Juan Santamaría International Airport SJO

This airport is located in the city of San Jose and is about a 3 hr drive to Uvita (where the wedding is located).

Travel Note

Optional additonal Flight to Quepos Airport XQP

This airport is 45 min from the area where we will be for the wedding and excursions. You can book a flight from San Jose SJO to the Quepos airport XQP.

Travel Note

Money Exchange

You will be able to exchange your money when you land in Costa Rica at the airport. Most places you will go will accept CC as form of payment. Local vendors like farmers markets or local soda shops may only accept their currency (colones) so please keep that in mind. Depending on the length of your trip we recommend to have at least $100-200 in colones. And if you have a few bucks left over, this makes a great souvenir! There will be atms all over the city of Uvita as well.

Travel Note

Lodging & Stays

There are tons of airbnbs and hotels in Uvita, CR. We normally prefer to stay in airbnbs for a more personal experience whenever we travel. As long as you stay in Uvita you should not be far from our venue. If you have more questions on where to stay or need help finding accommodation, please reach out to Jadeleen.

Travel Note

Rental Car

*Renting a 4x4 vehicle is required* CR has a lot of gravel roads that are steep! You will need a 4x4 vehicle to get to our venue. AND I know… we couldn’t have made this harder on you.. we’re sorry but promise it will be WORTH it ;) We have worked with numbers of rental car companies and have had really good experiences with each of them. We recommend Adobe Rent A Car first. But have also had positive experiences with budget, thrifty, Alamo and enterprise. *We have read that lots of travelers use ADOBE RENT A CAR- company and they seem to be very reputable and transparent about fees. After making your online reservation for your car, once you get to the airport in CR you will reach an area after getting your luggage with all the rental car companies and they will shuttle you to their office to get your car.

Travel Note

Getting Round

You will need to download the app Waze. Google maps and Apple Maps will NOT work in Costa Rica. There also are not physical addresses there. They go by landmarks and coordinates. You should be able to search Uvita and the venue to find your way through Waze. We will provide a more detailed description of how to get around and navigate closer to the wedding.

Travel Note

If you’re in the wedding party:

More information to those who are in our party will be provided on your lodging/accommodation soon, please let us know if you have questions! All other travel such as flights and car rental remain the same.
