Jade and Craig met when they were in high school through a mutual friend. Although they were both at the same school for over a year, they only met after Jade had moved schools. One night they went to Summer House on UCT's middle campus with friends and sat on the roof and looked over the beautiful city lights. At the end of the night, Jade asked Craig for his number. They became friends and spent a few New Years Eve's together. After three years of friendship and a few dates, Craig asked Jade to be his girlfriend over prawns and wine at a romantic little restaurant on Kloof Street.
For their first Valentine's Day together, they went to a concert in the park at Kirstenbosch. Craig made Jade a beautiful promise ring with a heart (as well as a cactus because she somehow manages to kill every plant in sight) and said he knew that they were going to be together forever. A couple years into their relationship they went to stay at Wilderness Dunes for a week. They soon discovered that it was one of their favourite places. It was winter so they stayed indoors and roasted marshmallows at the fire. Jade taught Craig that the only proper way to do so was to put a piece of chocolate into the middle! A little while later they went back to the Garden Route, this time staying in Sedgefield. It was then that they discovered a beautiful beach called Gericke's Point. It became their special spot and they went there every day for a week collecting shells, beautiful stones and admiring the anemones in the rock pools. Jade was secretly hoping that one day, when they were ready, Craig would propose to her on that beach.
In December of 2018, Jade and Craig took a trip to the Wilderness. On their second day, they went for breakfast at the Wild Oats market and then took a walk along their favourite beach where they picked up beautiful shells and explored the rock pools. Later that day, back at the chalet, Craig suggested they go for a picnic on the beach. So they packed a picnic basket and headed to Gerricke's Point. They walked for a while until they found a nice, quiet spot. Craig said a few sweet words to Jade and then knelt down on one knee. He pulled out a ring box and her to marry him. She gasped and asked, "are you serious?". Craig said, "no I'm just joking. Yes of course I'm serious!" With tears in her eyes and a big smile on her face, she said yes. They sat on their special beach and drank champagne to celebrate their engagement.
I appreciate everything Jade does for me, and how she tries to make things easier. I love how strong she is, dealing with really tough challenges with a smile on her face. I love how she doesn’t let these things get her down. She always supports those around her. I love her appreciation for good snacks and movies. I love her friendliness, how much she adores cold weather, her eyes and her smile.
I love how passionate Craig is about everything he does. Especially when he gets fixated on something and goes all out, like fish tanks or bonsais. I love his gorgeous ocean-blue eyes and his beautiful red hair. I also love all the little things he does for me, like making me tea every morning, and how well he cares for me when I really need him - the best example of this is when I had my wisdoms removed and he made me hot water bottles, delicious mushy food and showered me with love.
