Jacques and Ana had met before, circling the same orbit of friends for years. But, with Ana living in LA and Jacques in Boston, they had always just been friends of friends. That all changed one summer on Martha's Vineyard. At a dinner with friends and family, they sat across from each other and danced (poorly) at the Wharf. With a little encouragement from friends (thanks Abbey & Finn!) Jacques came back to the island the next weekend and like an 1800’s British couple their courtship began with chaperoned beach walks. Jacques charmed with dad jokes and Ana impressed with securing the Slavin Family Chopped Challenge win. Their fate was sealed with a first kiss at the Port Hunter. After dating long distance for just 3 months, Jacques bravely accepted the invitation to travel across the world to Sri Lanka for the Slavin's Christmas vacation. Over that 10 day trip they had 26 hours of air travel and long stretches of bus rides to really get to know each other. Jacques leaned on his psychology degree to ask deep questions and Ana fell in love with him a little more each day. By the end of that trip on New Year's Eve 2018, they decided to make it official and haven't looked back since!
Since Ana was a little girl playing on the iconic swing at the Beach Plum Inn she had always envisioned getting married there. The Slavin's have been coming to Martha's Vineyard for decades, always choosing the quiet simplicity and unmatched beaches Chilmark offers. Jacques' family has deep ties to the Vineyard and Menemsha fishing community. Jacques great (x7) grandfather, Thomas Mayhew, was the first English settler on Martha's Vineyard in 1641! In more recent history Jacques' family fished commercially out of Menemsha harbor. We feel like the Beach Plum Inn embodies everything we love so much about being on the Vineyard. We hope you find it as special as we do!
