FAQs

Question

What should I wear?

Answer

Our wedding will take place outdoors along the river in the fall, so we recommend semi-formal attire that is both comfortable and seasonally appropriate. We love a softer, nature inspired look. Think greens, tans, blues and other natural hues that complement the setting. Flowy or longer dresses are a beautiful choice, and suits or jackets in lighter, earthy, or traditional tones are always welcome. Please note that portions of the event will take place on grass, so we suggest choosing footwear accordingly. Most importantly, wear something you feel confident and comfortable in... yes, we expect you to tear up the dance floor. We can’t wait to celebrate with you!

Question

What to expect at a CATHOLIC wedding Ceremony

Answer

We are receiving the Sacrament of Marriage, and God is at the very center of it! In the Catholic Church, marriage is not simply a ceremony or exchange of vows. It is a sacred covenant. We believe that God unites us in this sacrament and gives us the grace to love and serve one another faithfully for the rest of our lives. Because this is a Catholic wedding, our celebration will take place within the context of the Mass. The ceremony will include prayers, readings from Scripture, a homily from the priest, the exchange of vows and rings, and the Liturgy of the Eucharist, also known as Holy Communion. The full ceremony is expected to last approximately 45 minutes to one hour. We warmly welcome all of our family and friends to witness and celebrate this sacred moment with us. While everyone is invited to participate in the prayers and songs, we respectfully note that Holy Communion is reserved for practicing Catholics who are properly prepared to receive the Eucharist. If you are not receiving Communion, you are welcome to join in line while crossing your arms to receive a blessing or remain seated and join us in prayerful reflection. This ceremony is for everyone, whether you share our faith tradition or are simply joining us in love and support. Your presence is a blessing to us, and we are deeply grateful to celebrate this sacred day surrounded by the people we love.

Question

Are children allowed?

Answer

We absolutely adore your little ones. However, if your child’s name is not included on the invitation, we respectfully ask that they not attend the ceremony. There are villas located onsite just 50–80 yards from the ceremony space. From some windows, you may even be able to see portions of the wedding. If you choose to travel with your children and stay onsite, you are welcome to step away briefly to check on them at any time during the reception. We deeply appreciate your understanding as we seek to create a prayerful and reverent atmosphere while also accommodating families as thoughtfully as possible.

Question

Will the wedding be indoors or outdoors?

Answer

Outdoors! Catholic weddings are traditionally celebrated inside a church, as the church building represents the sacred space where the sacraments are ordinarily received. However, with permission from the Church, weddings may be celebrated in certain approved locations. Our ceremony will take place outdoors at Marywood Retreat and Conference Center. This location is a Catholic retreat center that provides a sacred and prayerful setting for worship. Because it is a consecrated Catholic property and an extension of the Church’s ministry, it has been granted permission to host sacramental celebrations such as ours. We are grateful for the beauty of God’s creation that surrounds us today and for the opportunity to celebrate this sacrament in a setting that reflects both reverence and joy.
