The proposal seemed something out of a fairy tale. I had been at work all day since it was a Thursday, and we had decided not to really do anything for Valentines day and instead save our money for our upcoming trip to Disneyland! Caleb told me we were going to go over to his parents house and make some lasagna and have a nice candlelit dinner, just the two of us. His sister, Taylor, plays club volleyball and Caleb told me they were all out for the night at a club meeting for the upcoming tournament they had that weekend. I bought him a card, some date ideas, and some chocolate for our small romantic dinner. But that’s not what I walked into when I got to the house. We walked in from the garage and the whike house was dark. Go in a little further, and there was a pathway of tealight candles leading outside onto the patio. Being the firecaptians daughter that I am, the first thing I said was “OH MY GOD YOU’RE GOING TO BURN THE HOUSE DOWN WITH NOBODY HOME” not knowing that my parents and his family were hiding in the other room. We walked outside where it was POURING rain and under the cover of the patio there was a sign on the table. It read “Jaclyn Merz look behind you” with a beautiful drawing of a rose. I turned around and was handed the most beautiful bouquet of red roses in a vase! I put them on the table behind me and Caleb said “You know how much I love you” got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him. I said YES, and after putting on my most gorgeous ring, I hugged and kissed him and all of our family jumped out from inside! As soon as everyone came out the reality of what just happened hit me and I started crying! I WAS ENGAGED?? And he had my whole family there?? What a guy. The patio turned into the red carpet and the paparazzi with all the pictures we took with everyone and then we went inside for some good italian food my parents brought over. What a perfect night to remember celebrated with all my favorite people. Milbourns here I come!
