It's one of our favorites stories to tell. Phillip showed up to Horizon (the gym I coach at) for open mat for Jiujitsu. I saw him walk in and had sworn I had seen him somewhere before, but I couldn't quite figure out where. I was't sure if I was going to do Open Mat that night, but as soon as he walked in, I decided a few rolls wouldn't hurt. I helped him sign our waiver, we chatted a bit, and then went to the grapple dock. We went the whole night without rolling and as I was getting ready to leave, he asked if I had time for one more roll. We started rolling and he realized that I was much stronger than I looked. He had a hold of my lapel and I knew a bow and arrow was coming and I was trying very hard to avoid it. The harder I tried, the deeper my lapel went, catching my fingers between my lapel and bottom lip and with one last pull from Phillip, I caught my lip and drew blood. He apologized and made sure I was okay and then we kept rolling. Later that evening I had a follow request on instagram and I sent him a picture of my bloody lip with the caption "Nobody makes me bleed my own blood, nobody!". Hook, line and sinker.
