As many of you know, our story started on Facebook Dating. One day, Selby asked Jacob if he was up to meet that weekend, and he said, “I’m down!” Since we were long distance, we decided to meet halfway. Somehow, that led us to Indio, California, a place neither of us had ever planned to visit, but one that ended up becoming the perfect setting for our first date. Leading up to that day, we were both so nervous. Selby was wondering if Jacob was going to be crazy in person, and Jacob was wondering the same thing about her. He didn’t even tell his family he was going, and he was also worried Selby had people hiding in the room ready to jump him. So romantic, right? Selby got to the room before Jacob and started getting ready. Then, she heard a knock at the door. When she opened it and saw him, it sounds cliché, but she just knew. Even though we only spent one night together, it felt like we had known each other forever. The fact that Jacob drove four hours just to meet Selby in Indio made it even more special. After that, the rest was history. We went back and forth visiting each other, and about a month and a half later, Jacob asked Selby to be his girlfriend on the way to his former company’s holiday party. Over the next year, the miles between us were filled with weekend trips, long drives, new adventures, and plenty of time spent getting to know each other’s families and friends. Somewhere along the way, the visits stopped feeling like trips and started feeling like glimpses of the life we wanted to build together. Then, on New Year’s Day 2026 at exactly midnight, Jacob proposed. Now, we are so excited to celebrate this next chapter with all of you on our special day!
