They were both in choir at their high school, and each year the choral department takes a trip in the spring. In the year 2017, the trip was to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In one of the first choir rehearsals for the trip, Jacob noticed the coat Sara was wearing and complimented her on it. When she turned around and saw him, she was smitten... him, not so much. Their friendship grew over the course of the year, and they became a couple in April 2018. The rest, as they say, is history.
Jacob went up to Albany to visit Sara at school for a few days around Labor Day weekend, as he does whenever he gets the chance to. They decided to have a picnic in the capital center- it was a beautiful day, and it was the first day Sara was out of quarantine since going up to school. After they finished eating, they decided to walk around the capital buildings for a while before they left. Jacob began saying how Sara was always the one, and how much he loved her. As they had talked about getting engaged and married one day many times, Sara jokingly said "If I didn't know better, I would think you were trying to propose". In response, Jacob said, "Well..", before getting down on one knee and asking Sara to marry him. She was so caught off guard, but she smiled from ear to ear, and said "Of course".
