Together with their families, Rachel and Jacob joyfully invite you to join them on New Years Day beginning at 4:00 in the afternoon for their wedding ceremony and celebration marking the start of their happily ever after.
Rachel and Jacob have been friends for almost as long as they can remember. The two met in middle school at their church while serving on a local mission project. Over the next six years, the two became close friends. They both participated in many of the same homeschool and church events, including band, youth choir, and local and international mission trips. They also learned how to work well together when they were hired for the same position in the church music office. During all these years they got to know each other very well, but remained just friends.
During his senior year of high school, Jacob asked Rachel to be his date to his senior prom. Rachel was very surprised but happily agreed. The dance was the beginning of a new chapter in their story. After that night, many dates followed as their relationship grew deeper. Even after Jacob moved away to attend Middle Tennessee State University, they talked every day and continued their relationship. Eventually, Jacob transferred back to the University of Memphis, where Rachel also attended college, and they continued to date for several more years.
Jacob and Rachel always had a tradition of going out to eat at a nice restaurant just a few days before Christmas. On December 22, 2020, Rachel assumed Jacob was taking her out to eat like they had done every year. However, when Jacob picked her up, he took her to a small nearby park instead. As they walked along the winding path, Rachel noticed the beautiful setup with lights and flowers that Jacob had prepared. He got down on one knee and asked her to marry him, and of course she said YES!! They went back to tell Rachel's family, before heading to one of their favorite restaurants for dinner, and one of the first places they ever went on a real date. Afterwards, they surprised the rest of Jacob's family and celebrated together. After six years of friendship, and nearly four more years of dating, they were finally engaged!
Both Rachel and Jacob have now graduated from the University of Memphis. Jacob previously worked as a math and Spanish teacher at a private school, but he has been accepted into the Speech Language Pathology graduate degree program at the University of Memphis. He has started his classes, and works as a graduate assistant with clinical patients. He plans to work as a speech therapist in the near future. Rachel is a registered nurse working at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital. While they would love to work with international missions in the future, for now they plan to stay in Memphis until Jacob finishes his Masters program and will continue to serve together wherever God calls them.
