Jacob had been working for Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers for 5 years, and Nataleigh had just started working there in 2010. She needed a job to pay for school at the time. Jacob and Nataleigh met through a mutual friend at Cane's and started to hang out a bit. They mostly played online computer games together and would occasionally catch a movie.
We had planned to go see Captain America with a group of friends since it just came out. The friends ended up bailing and it was just us at the movies. It wasn't a planned first date, but it was super.
Jacob had asked for permission to marry Nataleigh, and with approval began to plan a lovely proposal during Christmas. He planned to take Nataleigh to see the Christmas lights at City Park in New Orleans with some family and friends. It was a lovely plan except that Nat wasn't cooperating... at all. Jacob tried to point out a beautifully lit gazebo only to have Nat say "I don't think we're supposed to go over there" and kept walking. His grandmother tried to point out a bench surrounded in lights saying "Oh! Y'all go sit so I can take a photo!" and Nat said "Mimi I don't think we can go over there" and kept walking!!! After going through the entire park like this the group, now tired and cold, disbanded. Mimi and Granddad went to get some hot coffee, and Jacob made a final attempt. He asked Nataleigh to walk down by a small pond with him. Alone near the pond he popped the question. Nataleigh said yes, but not without nearly knocking Jacob into the pond. They went back to Mimi and Granddad to get something warm to drink and shared the news. Mimi and Granddad were both thrilled, but maybe Mimi just a bit more. She was up the next morning calling everyone she knew to share the news even telling the husband of one friend to "get her out of the tub! This is important!"
After a few ups, downs, and round and rounds, here we are. We are so happy to have the support of our families and friends. We are also grateful that you are all so patient with us and are here a decade later to celebrate our big day. Thank you for everything you do, we would not be here with out you.
