How They Met

Serendipity or Fate?

Kylee and Jacob's story began on a double date, back when they were sitting beside the wrong people; it's quite a funny story now. When they first met, it was brief and neither of them thought anything of it, just another name in their small town. However, over the following months, these two strangers happened to attend the same events and hangout with the mutual friends. Around a year later, they "coincidentally" reconnected on Jacob's last day of senior year in Highschool. He happened to be in the same classroom as Kylee's club teacher, who she was going to wish a happy summer to. When Kylee came in, she spoke with the teacher before noticing that Jacob was playing Guitar Hero with a mutual peer. She approached them, joked with Jacob about getting his ass kicked in the game and they started talking. As Kylee was about to leave, Jacob made a smooth comment about Kylee being single and how someone should come and scoop her back up. This one simple, coincidental conversation led to two highschool kids finding their life partner. Fast forward eight years together, two cross county moves, a total of three fur babies, endless memories, support through the good, the bad, and the mundane, unconditional love, and learning how to live life together leads us to now, to celebrating the life they've made, and the one they will continue to share. So what do you think, serendipity or fate?

Engagement Story

From the love stories before us

At 15, Kylee's father, Travis, passed away but not before giving her the most significant gift. Kylee's maternal grandmother, Dorothy, had lost her original wedding ring set and for years it were unable to be located. Until one day, the ring box was found in an old work boot in the basement. Dorothy later spoke with Travis and Webb, Kylee's mother, explaining that she wanted Kylee to inherit her wedding rings. Upon Travis entering hospice care, he handed these rings down to Kylee. She wore her grandmother's wedding band for the following seven years, six of those while being with Jacob, until he decided it was time for an upgrade. While visiting family back home, Lee, Jacob’s mother, shared that she had recently inherited her own mother’s wedding ring. But Lee had something more meaningful in mind. She offered the ring to Jacob, hoping he would use Nana Jane’s cherished piece to propose to Kylee. Wanting to honor his grandmother, Jane, and request her approval, Jacob and Lee went to visit Nana Jane. When they told her their hope to use her ring for the proposal, she was absolutely delighted, and honored to see her ring be passed on to further expand their family. Nana Jane peacefully passed weeks later after losing her battle against cancer. About a year later, the Klemptner/Lilly family got together for the 20th anniversary of Nana Jane's beach week in the Outer Banks, as she requested this instead of a funeral. The first half of the week was filled with laughs, sun, story telling, and time together, just as Nana Jane would have wanted. By Wednesday, June 12th, 2024, Jacob executed his plan and proposed to Kylee while taking a walk on the beach. Kylee was taken aback, utterly stunned, frozen and crying, she repeatedly asked if this was real, if Jacob was sure and telling him that he had to be lying, she said yes to being Jacob's partner in life. Once back on the nearby pier, Jacob had their family waiting, with the addition of Kylee's parents, Webb and Jack. Tears, hugs, laughs, and Kylee's continued disbelief were shared before returning to the beach house to share the joyous news. Generations worth of love, light, and happiness, signified with a simple ring, were continued to be passed down to their story. Kylee and Jacob have always acknowledged how all the relationships before theirs have shaped them and their understanding of love, relationships and commitment. They are honored, and immensely thankful to their families for these lessons and inheritance of these cherished heirlooms.
