Our story begins almost 12 years ago. We first met at a work party for our high school theatre program. Somehow we both kept getting ourselves assigned to the same tasks. A few weeks went by and on the first day of school, we were both surprised to find the other in our study hall. Over the next month our interest in each other grew. After school, Jacob began to walk me home each day. Soon he asked me to be his girlfriend. After a little hesitation, I eventually said yes. We were both each other's first boyfriend and girlfriend.
Jacob and I spent much of our high school years together. Participating in choir and theatre meant we spent a lot of time after school with each other. We shared the same friends, took many of the same classes, and enjoyed spending time at each other's houses. Some of our favorite activities included jumping on the trampoline, playing ping pong, and playing board games. As with all high school relationships, there were ups and downs. We graduated high school no longer dating and both unsure that we would ever see each other again.
Jacob went off to college at Oregon State, while I attended Whitworth in Spokane. Over the summer we had begun to hang out again. As our freshmen year progressed, we both loved our new schools and friends, but realized we still had feelings for each other. When we came back home for winter break, we spent a lot of time together and decided to make our relationship official again. The next 3 years were filled with a lot of late night phone calls, driving, and tears. Long distance is rough. But we made it through as best friends.
After college, we both moved back to the Portland area and began the process of becoming adults. The next few years quickly went by as we adjusted to new jobs and living in different cities. We saw each other nearly every weekend, still having to drive some distance, but much better than 400 miles! We've enjoyed trips together, lots of game nights with family, and tons of Beaver games. As time went on though, I began to wonder if Jacob would ever pop the question.
It was my 27th birthday. After a nice dinner out, we went to my apartment to open gifts. I thought the proposal might be coming, but when the ring was not in my gift, I figured I was wrong. Then Jacob said "Hold on, I've got one more gift for you." He pulled out the ring, got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I of course said "yes," shortly followed by "finally!" It's about time to be a Tabor!
