Though they’ve officially been together for just four short years, their story actually began over a decade ago in a seventh-grade civics classroom at Watson B. Duncan Middle School. Introduced by a mutual friend, strategically seated next to each other, and bonded through a mutually beneficial agreement—snacks in exchange for class notes—a “simple” friendship was born (and highly productive). What Jasmine didn’t realize at the time was that this arrangement came with a catch: Jacob was developing a serious crush. On the last day of seventh grade, he bravely confessed his feelings. Jasmine, however, was not quite there yet. Cue a summer full of memes, late-night conversations, and slowly growing feelings—though Jasmine was far too nervous to admit it. Eighth grade followed with plenty of awkward avoidance, stolen glances, and friends repeatedly trying (and failing) to get them in the same room. When Jacob moved to North Carolina for high school, it felt like their story had come to an end—but Jasmine somehow knew this wasn’t the finale. Over the years, there were brief run-ins throughout high school, but nothing ever quite lined up. Then came college decisions, which resulted in a full state swap: Jacob committed to the University of Florida, while Jasmine headed to Elon University in North Carolina. Even miles apart, their connection lingered, quietly waiting for the right moment. Everything changed when a series of unfortunate (yet oddly fortunate) events brought Jasmine passing through Gainesville, where she and Jacob reconnected. In what turned out to be a challenging year for both of them, being together felt like a bright spot when they needed it most. Despite moments of long distance and moments of closeness, one thing never changed: somehow, they always found their way back to each other. Then came a string of what appeared to be “coincidental” visits to Gainesville—later revealed to be Jasmine’s carefully crafted master plan to finally win Jacob over. After some soul-searching, fresh starts, and a little life reorganization, Jacob made his way back north, and the rest is history. Now, nearly four years together, living together for almost two, and engaged since September 2025, they’re still laughing, adventuring, and grateful for the long, winding road that brought them here. Every day is a new adventure—and they can’t wait to start this next chapter together (with fewer miles between them).
