From Friends to Lovers

The first time I met Gemma is in no way exciting or funny, but instead it is very on brand how we were introduced to each other by her brother my freshman year of college. We met in the Walmart in Atchison and instantly connected with each other over Pokémon GO. I always thought of Gemma as JP's sister and it wasn't until my Junior year of college that we really became good friends. Our apartment became a safe space for Gemma to escape sometimes from her annoying roommates so the more I got to hangout with her, the more we connected over similarities. I never thought anything of her and she never thought anything of me and it wasn't until March of 2024 when I hosted my friends from college for Spring Break in San Diego where there seemed to be a spark. After that trip, I looked forward to any moment where Gemma was around, hoping maybe she felt something too. She started going to daily mass with JP and I almost everyday and her love for her faith is one of the most beautiful things about her. One late night, a few of us had been watching Pirates of the Caribbean and everyone went to bed, but Gemma ended up falling asleep on my shoulder and I felt that this was a special moment and I ended up staying awake all night watching 3 Pirates of the Caribbean movies with her laying on me until about 6 in the morning when she eventually woke up. After that night, things started to pick up between us, spending more time together, texting more frequently. I finally picked up the courage to ask Gemma on a date and it went as perfect as possibly could. We went on a walk by the river and talked in depth about our plans for the future and where we could fit each other into our lives. We knew after we graduated it was going to be tough doing long distance but knew in the long run that if we both put in the effort, it would be worth it. We spent as much time as we could together in the month we had together until it was time to go back to our homes. In that month, I learned what love really was meant to be and what it meant to be loved by someone in this way. Since May, we have been 2,000 miles apart but I knew that she was the one, so I proposed to Gemma on September 21st, 2024 and your invite to our wedding shows that you have had an impact on one or both of our lives and so we would love to have you join us on the most important day of our lives. -Jacob
