Question

Our Story

Answer

Ours story began on Hinge in 2019. Our first date was memorable from the start—Gaby showed up in a cast and on crutches. While we weren't too worried about it, Nora (Gaby's mom) was absolutely terrified that her daughter was going on a date with a man she had met online, let alone doing it while hobbling around on crutches. Thankfully, Jake turned out to be exactly who he said he was—and worth the risk. Just one month into dating, Gaby needed surgery. Jake stepped up without hesitation, helping her prepare, accompanying her to the procedure, and driving her back to college afterward. It was one of the first moments that showed just how caring and dependable he was, and it wouldn't be the last. Over the next few years, we navigated life's ups and downs together, including making it through the COVID pandemic. In the summer of 2020, Jake moved to San Jose to begin his career as an aircraft mechanic. While Gaby finished college, Jake even lived with her parents—a true test of commitment! After graduation, Gaby moved back home, and together we continued building our life side by side. In August 2024, after years of living with family, and saving money, we finally moved into a place of our own. On March 10, 2026, our anniversary, Jake took the day off and planned a trip to Pigeon Point Lighthouse, a place that held special memories for us. Years earlier, we had visited on a whim and always talked about returning someday. While standing at the overlook, Jake pointed out whales breaching just offshore. Completely captivated by the whales, Gaby had no idea what was about to happen next. When Jake called her name, she turned around to find him down on one knee, asking her to marry him. Of course, she said yes. From a first date involving crutches, to surviving surgery, long-distance college years, a pandemic, moving into our first home together, and a proposal overlooking the Pacific Ocean, we've built a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure.
