Jake and Crista met at a Broadway Workshop event held in the Union University’s theatre during Crista’s sophomore year of college. Jake was a high school senior planning to attend Union the next school year and Crista was a newly official theatre major, and neither thought much of their meeting. They spent two years in the program together - acting in shows, Crista directing Jake onstage, and working on the set crew. (She was also his life group leader his freshman year, so she fondly considered him one of her “theatre babies”.) Throughout most of their four years as friends, they were each pursuing other relationships and never really thought about each other in a romantic sense. Towards the end of Jake’s senior year, they found themselves both single and spending a lot of time together. Lots of hang outs turning into late nights, him hanging out and having dinner at the restaurant where she was a server, and a few walks as they talked about their previous relationships and the ones they were considering starting. Neither one ever saw their romance coming. But one late night turned into a “Wait, do we like each other?” which turned into a “Should we go on a date?” which ultimately, two and a half years later, turned into Jake asking Crista, “Will you marry me?” on a set he built in the same theatre they once met and built a friendship in.
