Travel to Germany

Hello! We understand that many of you will need to travel to attend our wedding. To help along with the process, we included some notes. For our American family, Jacob has been to Germany several times and is always available for travel advice. For our Deutsch family, Angi is open to help as well. Thank you so much for attending our wedding. We love and appreciate you all. -Jacob and Angi

Flying from USA to Germany

Our wedding is located in Recklinghausen, Germany. This means the two closest international airports are going to be Frankfurt Airport (which is about 3 hours away) and Düsseldorf Airport (which is about 1 hour away). Both have their pros and cons. We recommend Frankfurt Airport for cheaper, direct flight options, whereas Düsseldorf Airport may be better for more expensive, convenient travel. Frankfurt Airport is generally cheaper and offers multiple direct flights from SFO airport. However, once you land, you would need to drive or train about 2 1/2 hours to the venue area. Düsseldorf is more expensive and will usually require a stop, but is much closer to the venue. So, it is truly up to you. You can book directly through the airline or compare prices on websites like Google Flights or Skyscanner. Below are links to several different airlines that Angi and I have used and are worth considering. Getting your Rental Car/Train

Once you are in Germany, you are going to need to decide whether you prefer a rental car or public transit (train, bus, etc). Rental cars can be acquired at the airport just like they are in the United States. Cars are generally manual in Germany, so if you plan on getting a rental, make sure to request an automatic car. This may need to be booked in advance. Something to consider is that parking is not as readily available as it is in America and driving laws are different than they are in the USA. We attached a link for information. Please review it if you decide on getting a rental car. https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/travel/driving-abroad/road-rules-and-safety/germany/index_en.htm Public transit in Germany is awesome and very convenient. It is entirely possible you don't get a rental car and do all your travel via trains and buses. Both Frankfurt Airport and Düsseldorf Airport have train stations attached to them, and you can buy tickets at the airport or online ahead of time. We recommend booking your trains to and from the airport beforehand. Keep in mind these tickets are specific so you need to get on the exact train you booked and have your ticket available, as they will be checked. However, once you are by the venue there are different, more flexible ticket options like day passes, multi-train tickets, etc.. Below is the link to Deutsche Bahn, where you can book those tickets. https://int.bahn.de/en

Lodging

The final piece to your travel booking is lodging. We are not setting aside rooms at any hotel, so it will be up to you to decide where you would like to stay. Just like in the United States, you can decide whether you prefer booking a hotel or any kind of short-term rental like Airbnb. If you are looking for a place to stay, we recommend Recklinghausen because it is closest to the wedding. Below are three hotel recommendations that we think you may be interested in.
