How We Met

Montana State University

We met at Montana State University in an agriculture communications class in the spring semester of our freshmen year of college. Jake was an Agriculture Business major and I was an Equine Science major. At the time, I didn't think much of him other than he was a really nice guy from Wisconsin and was really smart. According to Jake, however, he took notice of me right away and immediately thought I was married (I wore my high school class ring at the time). Anyway, spring semester ended and I went home to Oregon and he stayed to work in Montana. Fast forward to fall semester of our sophomore year, I had signed up for a microeconomics class that I had to take for my major. When I walked into the room, lo and behold, guess who was sitting in the front row? I smiled and waved and was relieved to see a familiar face. Once he saw me, he grinned, waved and sunk into his chair. Over the next couple of days, we talked through facebook and he asked if I wanted to go hiking with him. I was hesitant at first as I didn't know him very well and he wouldn't tell me where he was taking me hiking, but he offered to take me to dinner after the hike and well... it was FREE FOOD! I also had much coaxing from my roommate who still takes credit for getting us together (thanks, Kaycee!). So, I agreed to go hiking with him, after I told Kaycee, "If I go missing, his name is Jake Siltberg." Well, it all turned out okay and I did not go missing, That date became another date and another and the rest is history!

The Proposal!

10.26.2018

After a little over three years of dating, Jake and I had graduated Montana State University with honors, I had gotten accepted into Colorado State University's Veterinary Program, and we had moved to Wisconsin for the summer. That fall, Jake helped me move to Colorado so that I could accomplish a dream of mine, to become a veterinarian. Unfortunately, that was also the start of a long distance relationship. Jake went back to dairy farm in Wisconsin and I was in Colorado. Well, three weeks before Thanksgiving break, Jake and my roommates had planned a surprise proposal. When I got home from class I opened the door of the apartment and immediately smelled something burning, not burnt food, but something was definitely on fire. Which was not good as I knew no one had been home. When I walked through the door, there were candles everywhere and my first response was, "Oh no, I'm not supposed to be here!" So I quickly dodged into my room. I then noticed that my previously clean room was a mess with pillows and blankets all over the floor. Then I noticed a familiar backpack and a pair of boots in my closet. When I walked out of my room and around the corner, Jake was there holding roses with dinner and wine on the table. He got on one knee, and I said YES! It was a perfect surprise!
