They met in Grade 6 at Washington Middle School. Jacob asked Alysia out on the blacktop at recess time and she said, "okay." Her first boyfriend... that she wasn't allowed to have. She loved Jacob's sweet smile and skater hair, but she couldn't lie to her parents. It was that same evening that she wrote Jacob a letter, that it just wasn't the right time. She handed the note off to her best friend, Alanna, who then gave it to Jake, breaking his heart after only One Day. Years passed, they grew up and reconnected and well... they picked up where they left off all those years ago.

Like any semi-modern love story, Jake and Alysia’s romance began on social media. It was Jake’s persistent “liking” of Alysia’s photos that prompted her to private message him. From there, they began texting back and forth, finally setting up their first official date. Like typical 18 year olds, it was nothing fancy… but that didn’t stop Jake from leaving a sweet impression on Alysia. After sitting and talking on the back lawn for many hours, Jake began to play music from his phone and when the classic Oldie “Stand By Me” by Ben E. King came on, he didn’t hesitate to ask for Alysia’s hand in dance. It didn’t take long for her to fall head over heels for Jake *swoon*

December 24th, 2020. It seemed like any other Christmas Eve celebration at Alysia’s mom’s house, aside from the fact that Jake and Alysia were dressed up a LOT more formal than usual BUT Alysia didn’t think much of it. After all, Jake has evolved into quite the fancy pants in more recent years. As the gift exchange began to settle down, Alysia’s niece said, “Mom, what are you doing??? Why are you holding your phone all weird?” Sara was trying to be sly, attempting to casually capture the moment that was about to unfold. STILL, Alysia didn’t think much of it and found it quite funny. Minutes later, after clear eye contact and a small nod to Sara, Jake got up and walked towards Alysia. As she sat on the couch, NOW she noticed Jake was somewhat helicoptering and looking a bit nervous. And then it happened. Alysia FINALLY knew what was going on. With a quiver in his voice and a sparkle in his eye, Jake got down on one knee and took Alysia’s hand. In front of Alysia’s family, Jake explained what Alysia meant to him, how much he loved her and how he envisioned her as The One for the rest of his life. And then he asked the famous question: “Will you marry me?” With the biggest smile of disbelief and tears in her eyes, Alysia said, “YES!”
