We met as counselors at a camp in 2010. Jaclyn was 15 and Connor was 16. The irony of their meet-cute is one for the movies. In their first memorable interaction Connor can be quoted as saying "I want a divorce" and Jaclyn replying to Connor's astonishment "Oh, we aren't married, she is just our child." Was the little camper, Abby, a fortune teller, a very intuitive little girl, or a passing circumstance in the universe? We will never know. But all week she insisted on calling us "mommy" and "daddy", requiring our attention at all times, bringing us together to collaborate for the first time. Over the coming months Connor would inspire Jaclyn to start a frisbee team with her friends at her high school. Her requests for advice would blossom into beautiful conversations that left them both in awe. After some of Jaclyn's smooth moves to leave her stamp on Connor's car radio, he couldn't deny his feelings any longer. He had one foot in the door, becoming the most dashing Peter Pan to her Tinkerbelle Halloween costume. That evening he literally choked on a Starburst while he tried to ask Jaclyn on a date. She couldn't help but be charmed by his nervousness in trying to impress. On November 5th, 2010 they went on their first date and felt the fireworks from their first kiss. That fateful night, they could not have known what a journey they would take on together. But here we are, nearly 10 years later: inspiring, challenging, and supporting each other as we grow into the best versions of ourselves and the best version of us. Now we are promising our lives to each other, so may we never say "I want a divorce" or "Oh, we aren't married" ever again.
