For an outdoor adventure, Theodore Roosevelt Island is a 91-acre natural preserve and memorial on the Potomac River, accessible by a pedestrian bridge from the Virginia side, offering miles of trails through wooded uplands and wetlands, birdwatching, and a central memorial plaza dedicated to the conservationist president, with free entry and great city views.

To honor those who have served in the military, consider visiting Arlington National Cemetery. It is the final resting place of more than 400,000 people, including President John F.
