Corn Cob Meets Cape Cod

Our love story

Kevin and Abby first met in late August 2020. Abby had just moved to South Bend, Indiana a few months before and Kevin was in law school at Notre Dame. This isn’t your typical boy meets girl in a book store or a bar. These two met the only way millennials know how: Tinder. Abby “super liked” Kevin and was shocked to find out she matched with the handsome, future lawyer with a SpongeBob joke in his Tinder bio. They talked for less than a week before deciding to get coffee at Chicory Cafe in South Bend. The conversation was completely natural and before they knew it, they had been sitting and talking for almost 3 hours. Abby came home to tell her roommate Nicole: “This is either my husband, or it’s going to hurt a lot.” They kept texting constantly after that. The next week, Abby cooked for Kevin. The meal was tomato basil chicken and roasted brussel sprouts. They went on a walk and bonded over their dogs, King of the Hill, and a love of musicals to name a few things. That night became their anniversary: September 8th. The next May, Kevin graduated law school and moved in with Abby for the summer. Kevin always says, “If we can survive me studying for the BAR in your spider infested basement, we can survive anything.” That August, after less than a year of dating, Kevin had to move back to Boston for work. They agreed that Abby would move to Massachusetts as soon as her contract in TV News was up in April of 2022. They spent the next several months flying back and forth, exploring Boston, FaceTiming, and planning for the future. In February, Kevin bought their first home together in Holbrook, MA. Abby moved from South Bend by May. This was a big change because she had never lived anywhere other than Indiana. Their house was immediately filled with three dogs and house plants. Abby developed road rage, a love of Dunk’s iced caramel macchiatos and her kind, midwestern ways were taken over by New England. Kevin developed a love of grilling, mowing the lawn and wearing socks with sandals. He went into white dad mode and couldn’t be stopped. Despite the tragedies, less than a year later, Kevin would start planning out which ring to buy and how to ask Abby to marry him. The original plan was to do it on her birthday, April 5, 2023, but the ring wasn’t in yet. He then tried to do it on Easter, but Abby unknowingly ruined it by requesting a photographer for the special moment. The next Saturday, Kevin planned date night in Hingham, MA. The night before, he asked Abby’s friend Alyssa to meet them in Hingham and be prepared to take pictures. Abby remembers Kevin acting a little strange, but not thinking much of it. Sometimes he’s strange. That’s why she loves him. He insisted they walk by the water, even though it was a little chilly. When Abby saw Alyssa walking up, she knew something was going on. That’s when Kevin dropped to one knee and told Abby, “I love you so much and can’t imagine life without you. Marry me?” To be honest, that might not even be what Kevin said. Abby blacked out a little. Of course, she said yes!
