I met Katie at a wedding - ironic, right? Within a few minutes of getting to the church, I laid eyes on her for the first time. It was an incredible moment, and I remember being absolutely compelled to meet her. My blinders went on and my entire focus became striking up a conversation at the reception. When I got the chance, we talked about politics and the shortlist of presidential hopefuls for 2016. I knew I was going to marry her at this point, but first I needed to ask her out. I finally got her number and we set a date for dinner the following weekend in Birmingham, AL. The rest as they say, is history.

After 5 years of dating, you'd think we were never going to get married, and truth be told, we ARE busily enjoying our time in D.C.! Michael recently finished his masters degree, and I am currently studying for my masters, both at Georgetown University. Between jobs and school, he managed to pull off the biggest surprise. An incredibly thoughtful day of suspense and "round-robin" phone calls culminated in a sweet proposal at one of my favorite spots in D.C. Michael topped that off by flying in my mom, sister, and best friend for the weekend. (If you've seen the video of the "surprise!" facetime - you know.) A celebratory party with our friends in the city ended the night. We cannot wait to keep the party going!
