The Inhotim is home to one of the largest foundations of contemporary art in Brazil and one of the largest outdoor art centers in Latin America. It was founded by the former mining magnate Bernardo Paz in 2004 to house his personal art collection, but opened to the public a couple of years later.
Ouro Preto is a colonial town in the Serra do Espinhaço mountains of eastern Brazil. It’s known for its baroque architecture, including bridges, fountains and squares, and its steep, winding cobbled streets. Central Tiradentes Square is named after the martyr for Brazilian independence. There are numerous churches and chapels all over town, including the 18th-century St. Francis of Assisi Church.

The museum houses about 2,000 exemplaries of cachaças from several places and different brands. There you can find ancient ceramic and soapstone stills, bottle filler, capper, manual mill, sugarcane grinder, and other pieces used in the initial production of cachaça. There are outstanding samples to be seen, such as crooked bottles which were made in reference to drunk people and a sample of “Chipanzé” (Chimpanzee), dated 1935, it’s one of the oldest cachaças produced in Brazil. But the main attraction of the museum is the cachaça “Pelé Caninha” (Sugarcane Pelé) dedicated to the former Brazilian player for winning the 1958 World Cup. Pelé didn’t like to have his name associated with an alcoholic beverage, and because of this, he filed a lawsuit against it and removed all the bottles from the market. But there are five bottles left and one of them is in the Museum of Cachaça in Vale Verde. Join this tour through the history of the most traditional drink in Brazil.
