Jackie and Vince were introduced in Las Vegas in 2016 by their dear friend Cameron Milligan (Jackie's best man). Jackie had just gotten back from living in Chengdu, China for a year and was in Las Vegas to finish her culinary undergrad degree. Vince was back in town after completing a 9 month assignment in Singapore. Cameron saw the potential match and suggested they go on a blind date. From the first conversation to now, it has always been clear they were a lifelong match
Jackie and Vince were so excited for their first ski trip together. Jackie had been skiing since before she could walk but this was only Vince's 2nd or 3rd time on skis, and the first time on a mountain of any meaningful size. After a year of social distancing and staying inside their DC apartment, Whitefish mountain was filled with an opportunity to recharge and get fresh air and pow! Vince spent 2 days of trying to understand which part of the mountain would be the best place to propose. On day 3, he tucked the ring inside his coat and up they went for their morning runs. After a busy morning on the backside of the mountain they were ready for some lunch at the summit. Filled up on burgers, bloody marys, and other ski-trip staples, the two headed back outside for an afternoon run. They headed over to one of the main maps to look at their next run, and Vince got down on one knee to fix his boot. He pulled out the ring and looked up to Jackie--she was not paying attention...at all. "Jackie, take off your ski goggles" he said, realizing she couldn't see him in her periphery. She took off her googles, gasped in surprise, and said YES. The air was filled with the clacks of strangers' ski poles celebrating the engagement. After a loving embrace and lots of tears, a couple walked up to Vince and Jackie saying that they had taken a bunch of photos of the event. Everything worked out perfectly! They continued on to ski down the mountain, floating on both the snow and clouds.
