Jackie and Nyaquoi met on the online dating site, Hinge, in July 2020! They saw right away that they have many similar interests which included traveling, fitness and adventures in the great outdoors. Their very first in person “date” was one hot Sunday evening that summer outside the iconic Philadelphia Museum of Art. Note that this was in the height of the pandemic so they decided to spend their first date outdoors strolling around the museum area and having good conversation. They dated for about a year and felt at that time that they needed a break to do a little soul searching. Though they were officially no longer “a couple” they started back up talking here and there over the phone. During that time Jackie was in serious training for the 2021 Philly Marathon. After crossing the 26th mile marker, she sees a familiar face in the crowd at the finish line holding a beautiful of flowers! Yes, it was Nyaquoi! What a beautiful surprise. That sealed the deal! The rest is history as some would say, but it was just the beginning. In August 2023, just two years after meeting each other Nyaquoi’s mother unfortunately lossed her battle to cancer. Jackie was along his side during the time when he needed her most. On his mother’s birthday the next year in July, the couple and Nyaquoi’s family went to the burial site to pay tribute to his mother. They both took the day off to just spend some time together. Little did Jackie know but Nyaquoi had been planning for weeks that this would be the day he would propose to Jackie. He met with her parents to ask for Jackie’s hand: He consulted with Jackie’s sisters to get her ring style and size. Nyaquoi orchestrated for his family, her family and some friends to stand at the Art Museum holding up letters that spell “M-A-R-R-Y M-E”. What a romantic!! A proposal at the very place where they met. Well, Nyaquoi planned that they would spend time on a walk (since they like the outdoors) before heading to their dinner reservations. As family and friends waited with bated breath, the two walked hand in hand alone the path towards the museum fountains. Jackie noticed a group of people standing with signs and thought, “how sweet…someone is getting engaged!” As they kept walking, Jackie was wondering why Nyaquoi was walking towards “someone’s special moment” not realizing it was for her. But as she inched she started recognizing the excited faces of her friends and family and that is when the tears started to fall! Nyaquoi pulled the engagement ring that was hidden securely in his socks, got on one knee and proposed! Cheers and more tears fell as everyone celebrated. The couple’s celebration will continue on the 5th of May as they recite their vows and become husband and wife.
