It all started in 2012 during move-in weekend at Sacramento State. Both Javon and Jackie moved into Draper Hall, on the second floor. If you ask Jackie about how they first met, she will tell you about how she met him while walking by his dorm room on the second day. If you ask Javon how they first met, he will tell you about how he saw her walking across the grassy field outside the dorms on the first day. Whatever the story is, they became friends and turned into best friends. They stayed friends for about four years, they dated other people, and then one day they finally got the timing right, and to no surprise to all their friends, they became a couple.

New Year's Eve had always been a special holiday for the happy couple. They spent the evening in various places like San Francisco, Reno, Sacramento, and San Diego. In the midst of a COVID year, they decided to hang out at home with a few close friends. With only five minutes until midnight, Jackie excused herself to the restroom and Javon quietly followed. As she exited into their room, Javon handed her a purple book that read "Our Love Story" with cartoon pictures of themselves on the cover. Jackie smiled with excitement as she held the book in her hand and Javon suggested she read it. Flipping through the pages, it told the story of how they met with numerous pages detailing all the reasons he loves her. Nearing the end of the book Jackie began to tear up as she came to the last page that read "I love you baby! Will you marry me? Yes or NO" as she looked up Javon was down on one knee with the ring in hand. Words were shared, tears were shed, and midnight came and went. The newly engaged couple came out of their room and surprised their friends with their engagement. And as if the moment wasn't perfect enough, right outside their door, literal fireworks, courtesy of the neighbors.
