I “Liked” Alec’s dating profile when I first came across this beach bum engineer with an adorable dog and great energy. We messaged back and forth and then he asked for my number and to meet for drinks. The Phoenix Suns were in the NBA playoffs, and although a Suns Fan, Alec was so committed to being present with me, sitting with his back to the TVs and game. We chatted all night about the differences between San Diego and NYC, volleyball, our jobs, traveling and our families. I was immediately struck by how kind and engaging he was. Alec then texted me the next day asking if I wanted to go to a waterfront yoga class. After class, we sat near a bonfire talking as the sun set, and on the way home we shared our first kiss. It was hard to stay away from each other from then on. -Jackie
It all started with Jackie telling me one time that it was her dream to see the Road to Hana in Hawaii. And also that waterfalls are one of her favorite things on earth. This began my proposal story. We planned a trip to Hawaii and I did my best to try and hide the ring, and make this all a big surprise. We began the drive and were having an amazing time together. Every stop along the way I assessed if it felt like the right place to ask her. I had a feeling that when we saw the right spot, I would immediately know. Sure enough, we pulled up to Wailua Falls and boom, I knew it was where I was going to propose. We jumped out of the car, Jackie in just a bathing suit. I reluctantly asked her, "do you wanna put on a shirt?” thinking she would prefer being dressed for the proposal pictures. But she responded, "no, why would I?" and we continued on... We walked up to the front of the waterfall and she wanted to jump in the water but I asked her first if we could take a picture. I handed the camera to someone, and while posing for the picture, I took the ring out of my famous Fanny pack and got down on one knee. The rest is history. -Alec
