Nick and Jacki technically met on a dating app… twice. The first time was a year before things actually worked. They texted and talked on the phone for a couple of weeks, but after several failed attempts to hang out (thanks, schedules), Jacki decided it was best they part ways. Nick, of course, has never let her forget this. Fast forward one year later: Jacki spotted Nick again on the app and sent him a rose—because why not give it another shot? This time, they finally met in person at a brewery. Nick immediately made fun of Jacki’s Prius and then asked if she wanted to see his truck… in the parking lot. Shockingly, this worked. Jacki laughed, Nick kissed her, and that was that. After the date, Nick drove off—only to call Jacki five minutes later because he wasn’t ready to stop talking to her. He then stayed on the phone for his 45-minute drive home, just in case there was any confusion about whether he was interested. But it quickly became clear that Jacki wasn’t the one Nick really needed to win over—it was her cattle dog, Kona. Kona does not like many people, let alone men. Nick, however, was determined. After three hangouts (and what we can only assume was intense judgment from Kona), she finally accepted him. That was the moment Jacki knew Nick was the one—because if Kona approved, the decision was made. The proposal happened at one of their favorite places, Mount Shasta. Nick enlisted help from both families and took his parents and Jacki’s mom to the San Francisco Flower Market to pick out flowers. Hundreds of them. According to Jacki’s mom, Nick kept repeating, “WE NEED MORE.” On proposal night, Nick got Jacki out of the house to get pizza with his brother and sister-in-law while the rest of the family sprinted into action. After two hours of strategic pizza stalling, Jacki returned to their cabin to find an over-the-top floral display, candles everywhere, and a sign featuring Nick, Jacki, and Kona over the fireplace. Surrounded by their entire families, Nick walked Jacki over to the flowers, got down on one knee, and asked her to marry him. Jacki said yes—and Kona approved.
