Our Story

Gates and Jacki met in 2021 while both working at the Republican National Committee in Washington, D.C. It was Gates’s job to draft opinion articles for political figures, and it was Jacki’s job to ruthlessly review, fact-check, and edit those drafts for accuracy before publishing. This arrangement led to many polite — yet profoundly spirited — exchanges of opinion. (The couple still does not fully agree on whether Mayor Eric Adams’ 2021 election as mayor of New York City is a meaningful data point regarding the Democrat Party’s attitude towards policing. Jacki would argue that Zohran’s election proves her right. She probably is.) That back-and-forth led to a friendship, which later led to more. Both Gates and Jacki realized that their shared drive to join the fast-paced world of politics was tempered by several mutual beliefs: a reverence for family, a predisposition to assume the best about people in a tough industry, and a realization that they both laughed often and pondered often. When they weren’t laughing at or pondering the same things, they wanted to tell each other what was on their minds. They loved it. They moved in together because every day and night felt like a hilarious sleepover between best friends. Gates and Jacki both realized that neither of them could really envision a life without the other. Their families met and got along famously. Following the 2024 election, they both entered the Trump Administration - Gates at the Justice Department, and Jacki at the White House. Perhaps more importantly, they bought a beautiful home together, which all of you are welcome to visit. Several years, one apartment, one house, one proposal, and many wonderful days later — they are getting married. We cannot wait for you to join us in the celebration of our love. -Gates and Jacki
