Like true millennials, we met on a dating app. We know what you're thinking but no...it wasn't Tinder. We each had very different dating philosophies which mirror how we do most things. Patient and easy going, Stephanie went on one date a month. Meanwhile, Jack dove headfirst into online dating and set up five dates in six nights. On a Sunday afternoon in early April, we met at a wine bar one block from Stephanie's apartment, instantly connected over drinks, podcast recommendations and stories about our twenties. It was the perfect last first date.
It was a rainy March Saturday and we had plans to meet Jack's parents for dinner in North Beach. We had time before dinner and Stephanie suggested that we visit the Nob Hill wine bar where we first met. At the wine bar, we reminisced fondly about the day we met and the many memories we've made together. Then we walked under the cover of an umbrella to the top of Russian Hill, one of our favorite spots in the city. When we reached the top, the rain stopped and Jack dropped to one knee and asked Stephanie to spend the rest of her life with him. Stephanie blacked out from joy, but she thinks said yes. After some moments of soaking it all in, Jack revealed the last surprise. Down the hill in North Beach Jack's parents were waiting for us, and they were joined by our closest friends and family. We were so happy to have them celebrate with us!
Our wedding was planned for May 24th 2020 - two months into the COVID-19 pandemic. We realized pretty quickly that we needed to pivot. Driving home from the airport after Jack's early March bachelor party, we hatched a plan to get married on our original date - even if it was just the two of us. Fortunately, the first break in the pandemic allowed us to gather 20 close friends and family for an outdoor, socially distanced ceremony in Stephanie's childhood backyard. It was a perfect moment for us to begin our marriage.
As COVID raged on, we kept moving forward with our lives. One year after postponing our wedding reception, we discovered that we would need to add a new guest - our baby! Stephanie was pregnant and due in mid-November! After a healthy first pregnancy, Stephanie gave birth to a beautiful baby girl early on Thanksgiving morning. Lucy Jane Mahoney is looking forward to meeting all of you at our May 2022.
