The setting: Appleton West High School circa 2009. Fluorescent lighting. Posters depicting various bodily anatomy adorn the yellowed cinderblock walls. It is here Sarah and Jack met for the first time. The occasion? A group project on the dangers of abusing inhalants. The bond forged in that afternoon spent researching the longterm effects of huffing paint? Unbreakable.
This year Jack and Sarah celebrated 10 years together! From braces and hitching rides with their parents because they couldn't drive to living together in Washington state, it's been a transformative decade, to say the least.
The morning Sarah and Jack were to set off on a cross-country move from Florida to Wisconsin, Sarah awoke to find an envelope on the pillow next to her. Inside was a beautiful poem written in Jack's distinctive handwriting. The letter ended with "I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you." She looked up to find Jack down on one knee. They were engaged in a hotel room at Port Orleans at Disney World.
