We met at Illinois State University as members of the Big Red Marching Machine. We were just friends throughout college, but we started becoming closer when Mike graduated and took a job as a band director in Pontiac. The week before Pontiac’s homecoming game, we grabbed Starbucks together (just as friends), though Jack swears Mike was flirting with him the whole time. During the week leading up to the game, Jack couldn’t stop thinking about Mike and decided he would ask him out afterward—which he did. Our lives have been filled with so much happiness since that wonderful night, so we will truly never forget the 21st night of September!

“This is where we started a family together, and this is where I want to ask you to be a family forever.” Those were the words Mike said to Jack when he proposed at Funks Grove Nature Preserve in Bloomington, IL—a place that truly marks the beginning of our family. Funks Grove was the first spot we ever took our dogs to as a couple, and while we lived in Bloomington, we shared countless joyful memories there as a family. Following the proposal, Mike had planned not one, but two surprise engagement parties that day—one in Bloomington and another in Orland Park. We spent the day surrounded by so many special people and FaceTimed with those who couldn’t join us in person. It was truly a day we’ll never forget. Thank you to everyone who has loved and supported us throughout our relationship and for making the day so memorable. We can’t wait to celebrate with you all on 5.25.25!
