For anybody who doesn't know our engagement story, we figured let's write it here. We'd been dating for 5 years and celebrating our anniversary. Jack had planned out a whole weekend in Portland, ME. Lanna was totally surprised when we pulled up to our "excursion" that Jack had planned and a private sailboat was waiting for us in a harbor in Bath, ME. So it's a beautiful day sailing and the captain finally says "I need to take a photo of you both, it's such a perfect day." So we carefully walk up to the stern of the boat and Jack gets on one knee and asks Lanna if she'll marry him. Naturally Lanna cannot breathe so she turns away and can't speak!! When she turns back around she notices another person on the boat!! Shocked, she realizes it's her brother, Jonathan, taking photos. He was patiently waiting for about an hour, hiding in the boat. Then after a painfully long time, Lanna does say YES! During a champagne toast on the boat, Jack explained that he spent a year MAKING THE RING HIMSELF! He used gold, gifted by Lanna's mom, from her original engagement ring, and two pieces of jewelry from Lanna's best friends. The crazy ring making lab was in our shed out back, she was blissfully unaware the whole time! A surprise dinner with family and then rooftop drinks with friends is what ended the perfect day.
