This is about half an hour from our venue. This was one of Kirby, Ruby and Popi's favourite places to go as children. It's an old coal mine, they take you on an underground tour and teach you about the history of Welsh coal.
A recommendation for the local area is Llanthony Priory. A short drive from Abergavenny. Built in the 13th century on the site of an older church, what remains today bears the scars of centuries of conflict and political upheaval. Despite all the drama, Llanthony Priory’s surviving windows and sweeping archways are still a powerful reminder of medieval Wales.
This is possibly South Wales' most popular walk and one of our favourites. The Redrups have even climbed Pen Y Fan at midnight on NYE! It's a relatively easy climb taking a few hours depending on how many breaks you have.
The four falls walk is another family favourite, it's mostly exciting as you get to walk behind it - or if you're Jack, dunk your head in it! The Four Waterfalls Walk (or Four Falls Trail) is a popular, moderate-to-challenging 5.5-mile (9km) circular hike in Waterfall Country, Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park, Wales, featuring stunning cascades like Sgwd yr Eira (where you can walk behind it). The trail takes 3-4 hours, passing through woodlands to Sgwd Clun-Gwyn, Sgwd Isaf Clun-Gwyn, Sgwd y Pannwr, and Sgwd yr Eira, requiring sturdy shoes for slippery paths and steep sections, with options for wild swimming in plunge pools.
