Our Love Story

When they met, neither of them had much of a plan. As it turns out, that was exactly the right condition. It was June 2022. Gigi had arrived in the United States six months earlier, living with a host family in an exchange program — light on her feet, open to whatever came next. Jack had just graduated from college and returned to his hometown, trying to figure out what kind of person he was becoming. They didn't know they were about to figure it out together. Things moved fast — and felt right from the start. On their first date, Jack introduced Gigi to his grandmother, Meema, something he had never done before. Gigi and Meema became best friends. On their second date, they went to a 4th of July fair and climbed into a ferris wheel. At the very top, it stopped. Fireworks started going off across the sky. Neither of them said anything. They didn't need to. After that, they filled their time with adventures that made no particular sense and perfect sense all at once — driving to Petaluma to dance with a room full of older couples at an old-fashioned hall, wandering through Point Reyes, talking about life through redwood trees and winding roads. Somewhere on those drives — not far from where they'll get married — they fell in love. Gigi stopped sleeping at her host family's home. They started dreaming out loud. One of the biggest things they wanted: a dog. Specifically, an Australian Shepherd — which, as it turned out, both of them had pictured, separately, long before they ever met each other. A year into dating, they got Sirius. Everyone thought they were insane. They were probably right. Out of nowhere: a puppy, an apartment, real life — and they ran toward all of it. Jack got his dream job. Gigi said goodbye to her host family and stepped into a new chapter she hadn't planned for but somehow already knew was hers. Raising a puppy in their early twenties was a lot. Sirius taught them patience, kindness, and the particular joy of showing up for something — and someone — even when you're tired. He still does. Their relationship has never been simple, and they wouldn't have it any other way. Loving someone from Brazil and someone from California means getting lost in translation more than a few times. But they always find their way back — and every time they do, they know each other a little better than before. Now they're getting married. Which, if you ask Sirius, was always the plan. He just let them think they figured it out on their own. We're so glad you're here to celebrate with them.
