It began at The King's College in NYC, sophomore year, with two strangers looking for new places to invest on campus. Jack and Elinore joined International Justice Mission's leadership in May 2021, never having had any interaction with each other. Jack was hoping for more adventure, and Elinore was finally hitting her stride at King's... and actively praying God would not allow any boys to complicate her plans. That fall, Jack served as Elinore's Vice President as she led the efforts of IJM. As the semester continued, Jack's steadiness and sincere respect for others convinced Elinore she would be lucky just to be Jack's friend. They spent hours together strategizing about how to support anti-human trafficking efforts, and how to advocate for justice and beauty in the most unlikely of places. As it turned out, Jack's optimism made Elinore's world bigger, her international experience complemented his adventurous side, and his gentle Southern charm grounded her Northern determination. Eventually, they found themselves to be both dedicated teammates and best friends, discovering along the way that they shared visions of what mattered most. And, with the help of Anna Adams (Maid of Honor), Elinore learned Jack might want to be more than just friends, too. They spent that fall laughing their way across Central Park, walking Elinore home, and finding any excuse they could to get coffee between classes. A few weeks later, when Jack owed Elinore money, she quipped, "You can pay me back by taking me on a date." He surprised her the next week with a dinner reservation at Mimi in the West Village, knowing her love for French language and culture. The next semester, Elinore stayed in NYC while Jack studied abroad in Florence, Italy. They spent eight months in different time zones, cooking pasta on FaceTime, telling stories, and embracing all the restoration God had for them while apart. Elinore realized life with Jack was exponentially more fun, and more beautiful, than the autonomy she held on to; and with that, they became official. They reunited for their junior year in NYC, filled with classes together at King's and dreaming up their greatest dreams yet. As Jack excelled in new roles, he remained Elinore's greatest source of encouragement in her advocacy endeavors. They travelled together, overcame crises together, braved unknowns together, and celebrated corners turned together. And, they still found themselves on coffee breaks and neighborhood walks any chance they could get. After beginning their final year of college, two years from the October they became friends, Jack proposed. Jack and Elinore's story brims with the redemption only God can cultivate, and they are watching him make all things new. God has carried their relationship through part of a pandemic, long distance, various tragedies, their deepest grief and disillusionment, new jobs, new communities, new neighborhoods, and most recently, transferring to a new school. Jack has been Elinore's safest place to land, never flinching in the face of sacrifice. Elinore has been God's most generous and unexpected blessing to Jack, felt in her loving charity, brilliant curiosity, and adoration of beauty. This wedding is the culmination of God’s abundant answer to many prayers – he has given far more than they asked or imagined. Jack and Elinore are overjoyed thinking of the many people who have loved them up to this moment.
