Through Darby's Eyes

January 2021

In January of 2021, I had just transferred to Mississippi State University, and I was dreading one particular class called Critical Writing and Research. On the first day of this online class, I saw Jack through the computer screen, and immediately, I felt a crush forming. I thought he was the cutest guy I'd ever seen. I couldn't take my eyes off of the small square he was in on my screen. At one point in the first class meeting, he answered a question, and I was very impressed by the intelligent answer he gave. Later in the semester, we were assigned a project that required partners, and Jack asked me to be his. We met in the library, and not much schoolwork was accomplished. Instead, we talked about where we were from, what shows, books, and movies we liked, and how much we disliked the current class we were taking. Jack later texted me to thank me for working on the project with him, and he asked me to go grab coffee with him one day. I couldn't believe he liked me, and I even told my friends that he must've just wanted a casual coffee hang-out. On our coffee date, he recited the movies and TV shows I had told him I liked. He had taken note of everything I said and seemed to be genuinely interested, and at that moment, I knew I had found someone I wanted to be with forever. We followed up our coffee date with a dinner date at Oby's where we both ordered a grilled chicken salad and ate almost none of it due to nerves. It was on this date that I started to suspect that maybe the crush was mutual, and when Jack asked if he could kiss me goodbye, I finally believed that he liked me just as much as I liked him. We've been pretty inseparable since that date, and even though we both majorly disliked the class that introduced us, I'll always be thankful for it.

Through Jack's Eyes

January 2021

I first saw Darby in January of 2021. We were both in the class “Critical Writing and Research” at Mississippi State. She was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen, and I immediately developed a crush. The only issue was that the class was online, and I only saw her twice a week in a two by two inch square on my computer screen. As the class progressed, and we participated in class projects, I realized that she was not only beautiful, she was brilliant. After a few months of the class, I finally gained the courage to message her outside of our class group chat. I very bravely asked her for help with an assignment, and from there, I asked her to be my partner in an in-person class project. When the day came to work on the project, I was incredibly nervous. I remember walking into the library and seeing her. She was even more stunning outside of the two by two square. We sat down to work on the project, but very little work was done. We talked about our favorite TV shows, books, movies, our homes, and our lives. As the minutes turned to hours, I realized that along with being beautiful and brilliant, she was funny AND cool. I knew I wanted to marry her that day, but I also knew that was probably too big of a jump. Instead, I asked her to get coffee with me, and our relationship bloomed from there.

For all the days along the way
