The story behind the “forever & always“

They say the best things in life happen when you least expect them. For us, that meant a freshly torn ACL, post-surgery grogginess, and a deeply unglamorous crutch-walk down the stairs to Joe’s office. It was early March. Cennet was halfway down the steps when Jack appeared at the bottom. Being the gentleman he is, Jack stopped, waited patiently, and asked if she needed any help. Proud as always, Cennet’s answer was a definitive, "No, thanks!" as she continued her slow rumble down the stairs. But the moment we were at eye level, time completely froze. It was a total movie moment. We looked at each other, and the exact same thought instantly locked in for both of us: Oh my god, this is the person I am going to marry someday. Of course, we didn't realize just yet that our real-life movie would come with a few logistical—and regulatory—hurdles. After some thorough "research," we discovered a slight problem: Jack was the Graduate Assistant for the baseball team. Because he was technically university staff and Cennet was a student, our blossoming romance was strictly against the college rules. To make matters more complicated, a few un-deleted old photos on social media made it look like Jack was still taken. Naturally, Cennet took matters into her own hands and initiated "accidental mode," coincidentally showing up wherever Jack happened to be for an entire month. When spring finally arrived, the tactics shifted to sunbathing on the grass. Sure enough, Jack graduated from trying to ignore the situation, to looking, to winking. Behind the scenes, the compliance rules forced us into a wild, nervous game of social media chess. Jack sent an Instagram follow request, immediately panicked, and deleted it. Cennet’s thought? Right, so we are definitely on each other's radar—and she promptly sent a request right back. Then came the Snapchat saga. Jack would start typing a message, delete it, and type again, driving Cennet absolutely crazy. Finally, she gathered her courage and broke the ice the best way she knew how: by sending a picture of a dog. That was it. The forbidden texting turned into a secret invitation to watch Jack's favorite movie, which turned into a beautiful routine, which eventually turned into making things official. Even back then, we knew that despite all the rules, this was forever. Today, our college days are behind us, compliance can't fire us, and we are finally making that "forever" official!
