I had gone to the very first YSA activity of the semester with one of my really good friends. During the activity my friend pointed out his new roommate. I thought his new roommate was so cute and to my amazement he was sitting all alone. I then decided it was up to me to make sure this cute guy wasn't lonely. I found out his name was Jack, a good name for a handsome guy! We talked and talked, and had a great time getting to know each other. From there we made every excuse to hang out, a week later we started dating and now a year and a half later happily engaged!
I had a feeling something was going to happen that weekend. Jack had asked me on our way to Utah, if I wanted to stop at a viewpoint in the mountains to maybe eat lunch or a treat. I thought this was a little odd because he has NEVER expressed interest in stoping at view points no matter how many times I point them out. While on the way we found a cute reservoir with a dock and a view of the mountains. So cute, but unfortunately when Jack said he had to run to the car to grab something I went with him. I later found out he was going back to the car for the ring, which was left in the back. Since he couldn't get the ring he didn't propose. When we finally got to Jack's uncles house we pulled in the driveway and he said "I wanted to do this more romantically but will you marry me" of course I said yes. We later went to Popeyes with Jacks cousins and we did not say a word about us being engaged but of course they later saw the ring and found out. Even though it didn't go as planned it was a special and tender moment that I will cherish forever!
It had been a pretty slow week, but that Saturday my roommate asked me if I was going to the YSA activity. I was still new at school and I didn't have too many friends yet so I jumped at the opportunity to get out of the house. The activity was fun but being the awkward young single adult that I am, I managed to find a table to sit at while I counted the minutes till it was time to go home. Fortunately, I wasn't alone long when a cute blonde girl in a Simpsons beanie came up to me and introduced herself. We struck up a pretty awesome conversation about movies and our favorite foods and drinks. I loved talking to her so much that I found myself wanting to spend a lot more time with her after that first conversation. Luckily, she said she was willing to be my girlfriend a week later so I've been able to talk her ear off since.
I remember asking my mom how my dad had proposed as a kid. I remember my mom explaining that dad had just asked her out of nowhere while they were in the car. Mom always seemed to think that dad could've put in a little bit more effort into the proposal, so I always kept it in mind that I needed to do something extravagant. I knew Bailey was the one, and I wanted the proposal to be memorable. Romance and fancy proposals are definitely not one of my strong suits, but I wanted to make it as easy as I could for her to say yes. But I just couldn't settle on something that I could realistically do. So I ended up deciding that the best time would be while we were driving down to Utah. There had to be some nice viewpoints along the way, right? So I told Bailey that I wanted to stop at some of the viewpoints on the way down, basically just crossing my fingers that she wouldn't suspect. The first hour went by, and I didn't see anything I liked, so we kept going. The second hour went by, and I just managed to find a lake that we could stop by. I thought, "This is it." So we got out of the car to go check out the dock, and I pretended to need to go grab something out of the car. Of course, Bailey follows me, so I don't get the chance to grab the ring, but I figured, "Eh, it's not that big of a deal; I'll find a different place." The third hour passes by, still nothing. By then, we were on the freeway with the Utahns driving like maniacs, so I was too focused on not dying. So we got all the way to Uncle Michael's, and I hadn't proposed. I decided that if my dad did it, it couldn't be that big of a deal; he is my hero after all. So I proposed and asked Bailey if she wanted to marry me. By then, I don't think she was expecting it, so she was super surprised. I couldn't have asked for a better moment, and I'll always remember it. Thanks Dad, for the great idea!
