The National Youth Leadership Program takes place yearly in Washington DC. Both Jack and Sarah attended in October 2007 because when they were kids they both wanted to enter into politics! He was elected President, and she was Press Secretary. They argued the entire time, but there was chemistry and they held hands for the first time at the Jefferson Memorial. They agreed to exchange phone numbers and continue to hold hands and argue 11 years later.
After being ”officially” together for most of college, they agreed to move in together in 2013. They moved to Connecticut until 2015, when they went on a brief adventure to Chicago. They eventually found Maryland where they have lived for 3 years with their cat, Oscar.
One of the perks of being patient for 10 years is that Sarah got to design her own engagement ring! She knew it would be coming, especially after Jack suggested she get her nails done. They went back to Washington DC for a special date night at Filomena Restaurant, followed by a trip to the Jefferson Memorial where Jack had a photographer waiting. He got on one knee on the steps of the memorial and said some very nice things that Sarah does not remember because she was crying.
After leaving Groupon, Jack got a job working for Ripken Baseball. He originally sold tournaments for the Ripken Experience, but has worked his way up to becoming Assistant General Manager of the Aberdeen IronBirds, short season Single-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. Sarah got a job teaching 3rd Grade and has been teaching full time for 3 years. They adopted the best cat in the history of the world who enjoys the sunshine on his cat tree.
