All we have to say is...cringy Christian dating app, rival PsyD programs, and praise God! Just kidding! Well, not kidding about meeting on a Christian dating app. We met on United Young (cringe) and messaged back and forth for about a week before Jonathan asked Jaci to go on a date the following week. Usually, people do not take the time to respond to such lengthy messages of Jonathan's, but Jaci is not faint of heart, and she kept responding. Particularly noteworthy to Jonathan was Jaci's thoughtfulness and reciprocal curiosity towards him. So, we both were really taken aback by how intentional and thorough each other was in the preliminary conversations! We both love exploring new places to eat, and both have a love for a wide variety of foods, so we went to get Indian food for our first date! Jonathan remembers feeling nervous as dinner at the restaurant was coming to an end because he certainly wanted to keep talking with this beautiful girl! As he scanned his mind for a transition to another activity, he realized that they had not indulged in a proper desert for the evening, so he eventually inquired about Jaci's desire to join him for desert. We went to get Ice Cream (at Baskin Robbins) and proceeded to talk for 3 more hours! A few dates and adventures later (rollerblading included) we began officially dating in early December 2021. It was fortunate to begin dating at that time, but unfortunate as the semester was coming to an end for both of us and he would have to head home for the holidays (since he had not foreseen being in a relationship!) Fortunately, the airlines were over-booked and Jonathan was able to change his itinerary to go home four days later in order to spend more time relaxing with this young woman he could not bear to be apart from for so long! He recalls knowing that there was something special about this SoCal girl with dark curly hair, gorgeous blue eyes, and the sweetest boy Henry (labradoodle)! A future with them was on his horizon for sure, Jonathan recalls telling a couple of his classmates at that time. Soon, Jonathan went home for Christmas break so we had to keep in touch over Facetime. It was when Jaci almost said "I Love You" out loud at the end of one of those calls that she knew they had something really significant and special. Jonathan got to meet Jaci's family in California in January (yes it was warm), Jaci got to meet Jonathan's family in North Dakota in February (yes it was cold), and the rest is history. On the flight home, after meeting the Millers in February, Jaci had a deep sense of gratitude overcome her as she reflected on how incredible Jonathan and his family are. She thanked God for answering her prayers for a wonderful man with a wonderful family, one that she sensed she would one day be a part of :) Soon after, having both reflected on the past few months, and the trip to North Dakota in late February, we both declared our desire to marry each other on a hike in early March. March is also both of our birthday months, so we had a very fun month celebrating our future intentions, and each other's existence! Amidst the craziness of graduate school, we went browsing for rings in April to get some ideas. Then, we wanted to lock in a venue over our holiday break in December, so we toured and chose our venue in May. We got officially engaged in early June on an unsuspecting evening after a long day of travel home from Arizona, and cannot wait to be husband and wife in December! We are so grateful to God for bringing us to each other, and are excited for the adventures ahead as husband and wife!
About Jaci: Jaci was born and raised in California! Most of her entire immediate and extended family lives in San Diego County. She is currently in her second year (out of 5) of her doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Rosemead (Biola University, La Mirada, CA) after getting her BS and MS in Kinesiology years prior. Jaci has been an athlete her whole life and played collegiate volleyball at Biola University for her undergraduate years, and then coached and trained a collegiate women's team while getting her Masters degree. It was also during her Masters that she earned her certifications for strength and conditioning and personal training that have equipped her to work with clients on their physical health goals. It is at the intersection of physical and mental health that Jaci finds herself uniquely equipped to work with individuals, and she hopes to study this intersection for her dissertation for her doctorate. Jaci has a 4 year old pup named Henry whom she adores and loves to go on adventures with. All in all, she is passionate about helping others heal and thrive, growing in community, and will travel at any opportunity that she gets. Oh, and she loves Jonathan Gabriel like a lot! About Jonathan: Jonathan was born and raised in rural Northwest Minnesota just South of the Canadian border. He enjoyed playing sports throughout high school-particularly soccer, basketball, and track. Though basketball was always his favorite, he played one year of soccer at the University of Northwestern, St. Paul (in Minneapolis, MN) where he majored in Psychology and Biblical Studies. Jonathan pursued a degree in psychology at the start of college knowing that he wanted to work as a mental health clinician of some sort due to his own experience in therapy as a young preteen. Ever since that time, it has been a calling for Jonathan to walk with others through difficult times with the intention of mirroring the image of Christ to them. After undergraduate studies, Jonathan moved back home and accepted a job as a life skills coordinator and Behavioral Health Technician at an inpatient acute psychiatric hospital in Grand Forks, ND (30 minutes west of where he grew up, and where his family is currently residing). It was during his time working at the hospital with individuals with life-threatening mental illnesses that Jonathan knew he wanted to continue his education to become a clinical psychologist. So, he applied and was accepted into Azusa Pacific University's doctorate of clinical psychology program which is what brought him out to the LA area and crossed his path with Jaci Rose! Currently, he will be going into his third year of five. His pursuit of interest is at the intersection of psychodynamic/psychoanalytic therapy and Christian integration. He works as a bartender at a local tavern in Glendora, CA serving up some of the perfectly poured draft brews, and enjoys it thoroughly! About Us: Being that we both are in doctoral programs, much of our time is devoted to the basics! Sleeping well, eating well, studying well, exercising (ourselves & Jaci's dog Henry), working part-time, and resting well. We both have been attending church together since January, and have enjoyed getting to know more people in the community. We were able to serve at a Respite Day (a evening off for parents with kids with disabilities or foster children) together and look forward to serving our community together when opportunities arise. We also try to connect with and visit our friends and family often :) What do we do for fun?? We enjoy our "travel" dinner dates, where one of us will cook a meal from a different culture/country and we pretend we are in that country enjoying said meal (we love learning about and exploring other cultures/countries!) We also enjoy simply stopping homework and taking Henry for a walk or watching a movie together. It's the little things! We have been fortunate to travel together a few times and look forward to future adventures!
