Engagement Story

10.06.2025

Cody's idea for our New York trip was a self-proclaimed "mafia tour" — he'd spent weeks researching mob history and had a whole itinerary mapped out. One of our stops was Gapstow Bridge in Central Park. I was fully expecting a story about some old mob boss, but instead Cody got down on one knee. My brain genuinely didn't catch up for a second. And then a photographer appeared out of nowhere, and I realized he'd been planning this all along. He didn't let it end there. On our way to dinner, I told him I wanted to keep it just the two of us for a little while before calling everyone; However we turned the corner at Umberto's Clam House — which is also the site where Crazy Joe Gallo once met his end — and there were my parents, waiting at a table. I found out later that Cody had asked my dad for his blessing a few months earlier, during a family trip to Chicago. Having them there made it feel like a full circle moment! Funny enough, the day before, we'd been wandering through the park with friends and Cody bought a painting of Gapstow Bridge from a street vendor. He was so insistent about it. I just thought he liked the bridge, but looking back, I should have known something was up. It was truly the most special day in one of our favorite cities—and the perfect start to this next chapter together.
