Jacelle and Joshua met in Laredo, TX due to work. We had a mutual friend and colleague, Mikey Bras, who flew to Laredo, TX for a soccer tournament. Mikey asked Jacelle if she knew where Stevens (Joshua) was staying at. Jacelle had no idea who he was or that he worked for the agency, let alone the same port. Josh knew of Jacelle and seen her around the job but, never interacted with her. It was a sunny, Thursday afternoon. A bunch of officers were enjoying their days off together and decided to throw a BBQ. Josh was sitting at a table playing a game of Phase 10. Jacelle shows up with what she claims to be her famous spiked strawberry lemonade (we later discovered that Josh makes it better but lets get back to the story). Another officer calls out "Stevens." Jacelle says, "Wait your Stevens!?" Josh: "Yea. why" Jacelle: "You're friends with Mikey Bras?" Josh: "oh Yea..." Jacelle: "We must take a picture and send it to him" And that was the beginning of our friendship.
We went to CUT by Wolfgang Puck for a dinner date. Our friendship was already turning into something deeper. We decided to take a leap of faith and start courting one another. As time went on we prayed to God and asked if this relationship was in His divine will for us. We went through ups and downs your typical couple in the early stages of dating wouldn't have gone through and had every reason to give up but, we didn't give up on each other. We continued pushing through until God had the final word.
After years of prayer, God finally spoke! Jacelle wanted God to answer in a specific way and He definitely did! God aligned our paths that afternoon in June of 2021 because He had a bigger plan for us. God gave us specific details and timeline regarding our wedding.
After God answered our prayers spring of 2024, we knew we had to get the ball rolling with our wedding planning. However, a proposal still needed to happen. Days turn to weeks, weeks turn to months, and now it’s 2025 yet he didn’t pop the question. Maybe it’s just me but, I don’t think we are born with patience because certainly, I wasn’t. One day Josh says, “Bae I wanna take you out to dinner because it’s been a while so wear something nice” I told myself “ he’s going to propose !!” On the evening of February 2, 2025, Josh took me to Rare, a steakhouse in Little Falls, NJ. As we walked in, they sat us all the way to the back. The food was great, we had great conversations, but dinner ended with no proposal. It was snowing as we were leaving the restaurant but before Josh took me home, he needed to stop at the church to help John with something. I waited in the car, and Josh calls me to come upstairs because it was going to take a while. I heard my favorite song playing as I walked through the doors and into a low lit room. As I continue walking, Josh was standing with a beautiful backdrop and a path of rose pedals and candles with a MARRY ME sign. I walked towards him and I can see how nervous he was. When I reached him he hugged me so tight, I can tell how emotional he was getting, and then he started to speak from his heart. After a few minutes he takes a knee, pulls out a ring, and says “Jacelle will you Marry Me”. He never calls me Jacelle, so this was serious lol. I said “YES!” I then hear my mom in the background scream “Hallelujahhhhh!!” I started to get emotional because I was really caught by surprise being that my parents were there and our closes friends. It was very intimate and private proposal and for that I will never forget this day. I will never forget the detail Josh put into this and him seeking help from our loved ones to make this everlasting moment come true.
Thank you for being part of our love story! 😊
